Ouch! No wonder the Pentagon is loathe to send our army to Ukraine ... The Army is coming off losing two consecutive wars in 20 years. It has been through the cultural equivalent of a prison shower. It is commanded by people focused on national politics and not on warfighting. There is a great deal of reason to wonder if warfighting remains a priority. While climate change may or may not be real, a “floating solar array” at Fort Bragg, or whatever the hell the woke-ists plan on calling it this week, is not going to affect anything. The Army can’t even fill its own ranks; how does it expect to fight the scourge of global warming? Wormuth should be backing away from this bullsh**. The “resilience” she should be worrying about is the resilience of US troops clashing with the Chinese Army. Many sources are suggesting a Ukrainian offensive in May. 60,000 Ukrainian troops, trained on NATO weapon systems will be ready. Barring a Russian breakthrough or collapse, I suspect nothing will be decided until then.
Human Verification Russia definitely has the initiative right now. Generally from a massive advantage in manpower. Given their massive losses for minimal territorial gains you have to wonder how long they can keep this up. Tough stuff on both sides right now. Can Ukraine hold long enough for Russia to tire and counterattack once more?
All of that is speculation on highly unlikely scenarios. And yeah, if the war is still raging in November 2024, I do hope whomever wins the WH will make a settlement. I have been very critical of Obama’s handling of the initial invasion in 2014, but that was only to point out the Russian incursions all happened on Obama/Biden’s watch. Obama’s approach to 2014 was actually very pragmatic and has aged well, tbh. Obama was quite prescient on the Iraq war and is proving to be very prescient on Russia. Obama’s approach to Russia is more similar to Trump’s than it is to Biden’s, I hate to tell you.
Bad news for Ukraine has to be couched in “but massive Russian losses.” It’s a curious psychological phenomenon.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/craigh...s-for-a-counter-attack-coming-into-place/amp/ It’s coming. Probably their last shot before peace talks are forced down their throat by the west. Hope I’m wrong about that.
Respectfully, I think you are partly wrong about it. I do agree the counteroffensive is coming and that it will be very consequential to the outcome. But I also believe if the counteroffensive is unsuccessful, we will start hearing new reasons why we need to put in place a NATO patrolled no fly zone or perhaps even surgical, strategic NATO aerial strikes designed to hit only unmanned Russian military installations, weaponry and aircraft on the ground.
NATO cannot establish a no-fly zone for the same reason that, a year on, Russia cannot overfly Ukraine with impunity ... US/NATO ISR Addendum: Deep Dive Into The Delta Leaks Analysis also hints at why Russia has little choice but to use the slow grind approach.
Russia's Cossack Detachment has detached itself from the Russian army, refusing to follow orders. Apparently, the fighting in Vuhledar has gotten a little too rough, and their superior officers have gotten a little too stupid. So when ordered to go on the offensive, they decided to play defense instead. Russian 'Cossack detachment' refuses to go on offensive near Vuhledar — MoD

Russians send conscripts forward in a charge with shovels as the weapon of choice (or necessity). The MPL-50 entrenching tool was designed in 1869, and Russians have myths about soldiers attacking successfully with it. For some reason, the shovel doesn't do so well against concrete-reinforced positions defended with automatic rifles. Russian mobilized soldiers storm Ukrainian positions with spades, UK intel reports I just hope that Ukraine gets their western tanks before Russia gets copies of the books "Infantry Charges for Dummies" and "Tank Battles for Dummies".
Something really bad would have to happen for NATO to go "on the offensive" in Ukraine. Like REALLY bad. Like the war spreading to other regions - like maybe Belarus invading or Moldova being thrown into a Coup - and even that doesn't seem like enough.
Tens of thousands of Ukrainian troops killed, wounded or captured, by a private security company, while the larger mass of Russian troops rest and wait. Probably because they’re anticipating a larger war vs NATO.
I think Russian use of a nuclear weapon would do it, too, regardless of whatever cute story they get together.
The US will nuke before Russia does. A regime is never so desperate as when it realizes it’s in decline.
So much for not giving F-16's to Ukraine. The U.S. is evaluating Ukrainian pilots to see if they can be trained to operate F-16's. We are only starting with two pilots, but that might be all it takes to defeat Russia's air force. US evaluating Ukrainian pilots for possible F-16 training | CNN
