Guy on the street asked me for money for crack. He must have detected my hesitancy, so he assured me my money wasn’t charity, but rather an investment.
As was the mighty Soviet Union, the predecessor of Putin's Russia, and let's not forget that Vlad referred to the demise of the Soviet Union as the greatest geopolitical tragedy of the 20th Century and now he's trying to undue it one country at a time starting with Ukraine although I guess it's possible to say that he was already successful with Belssrus which "willingly" became a puppet state of Mother Russia.
Afghanistan is a textbook example of mission creep. We accomplished the goal of the operation rather quickly, then because of hawkish war profiteers it morphed into something totally different and poof 10 years later we have thousands dead and 3 X wounded and only goal was Defense contractors and their ilk got wealthy at the expense of brave men and women who believed their fight was just. Truly sad. We don’t need to make that mistake again and let arming Ukraine creep into kinetic ops with Russia. I’ll Pass. Let the Germans and French figure it out and pay for it. We can send them sigint
Ukraine launches psychological assistance program to combat fear and nervous breakdown among Ukrainian troops. And in other news, personal colleagues of both Zelensky and Arestovich have been killed in Bakhmut. Apparently all hands are being thrown into the meat grinder ...
Some quick daily updates Ukraine update: Russia sends all forces in Svatove to the front lines as Ukraine presses closer Increased Russian naval activity in the Black Sea; more Russian stuff burning up
While I would be morbidly curious to see Russia attempt another maritime operation, I cannot imagine a realistic scenario in which they would risk what remains of their fleet.
im trying to piece together their broader strategy from all this movement but I can’t even begin to guess.
You aren’t alone. I have been wrong so many times about what Russia would do and then about how well they would do it. I’m a career military professional, but I’m certainly not a seer. Your guess is probably as good as mine. What I should have done from the beginning was predict the highest-risk, lowest-payoff moves and then predict that Russia would execute them so poorly that Ukraine would actually withdraw in the face of them, assuming Russia was attempting to deliberately deceive the world with feigned incompetence. So that being the case, maybe Russia will try an amphibious operation far outside of its capability to realistically support, and maybe they will use nukes to try to effect a breakthrough. You just never can tell with that clown posing as a military genius in the Kremlin.
