It appears? Watch them in action in their previous “patriot protection” actions.

I can't see how demanding a stronger NATO with more participation from NATO countries could ever be considered a "good" thing for Russia. Or how trying to cut off Russia's cash cow pipeline to Europe was a "good" thing for Russia. Nor can I see how killing over 200 Russian solders is a "good" thing for Russia. Or bombing a Russian airfield and Russian military equipment is a good thing for Russia.

Public opinion? He literally just called Putin’s move “genius.”

I also agree that this particular diatribe was spot on, although in my ear the point was to criticize NATO, not Russia.

This guy is an unbelievable bad ass.

But I hope they have a way out. He’s supposedly rejected offers to get him out of there already. I understand him wanting to stay with the fight, so long as there is a fight. On the other hand, isn’t it important to have the legitimately elected government alive? It’s obviously a tough deal either way. Don’t want to be seen as “fleeing”. On the other hand, keeping him alive and out of Russian hands is important to put a live face to the legitimate govt of Ukraine (contrasted with whatever puppet regime Putin has planned).

    Absolutely.

He wasn’t terribly popular before, seen as an amateur. And TBF, he was.

This shows that he might not have the experience of his adversary, but he’s got more heart than that cat could dream of. Rooty Poo will never be within 1000 miles of obvious death.

The easiest target for the most criticism here isn’t NATO as a whole, it’s Germany.

Even looking at the preinvasion aid Ukraine was given, Germany has been next to worthless. The US and UK gave Ukraine advanced antitank missiles. Latvia and Lithuania gave Ukraine Stingers. Other NATO members provided other weapons and ammo.

Germany, by contrast, offered them … 5,000 helmets. And even that they didn’t manage to deliver to Ukraine until today.

Agreed. Germany def made a deal with the devil.

I suppose in the end all questions ultimately lead to the answer “money”, but I will never stop being amazed at how many people will enter into agreements with already exposed crooks.

Why the worst person in the world doesn’t understand that they’ll be supplanted with little effort required in about three seconds is a forever marvel to me.

It was a negotiation tactic to get the other NATO countries to up their defense payments to NATO. Say what you want about Trump, but it worked.

It's odd that most of the refugees are fleeing to the west from Ukraine. I'm sure there are probably a few fleeing to Russia, but not many.

Germany has been corrupt since we freed it from Hilter, not surprised they aren't doing much. The US has coddled them for way too long. It's pretty sad that Latvia, Poland and Romania are chipping in more than they are.

Well what else would you call it for a large majority of the trump faithful? It IS idol worship for a lot of them. Have you seen a trump rally? I have family members who truly believe he was "sent from heaven by God" to SAVE us from the evils of the left. Hell, some on this board see no fault or problem with this grifter and will defend him tooth and nail. As they say, it is what it is. And by the way...he is orange.

How about reviewing what Trump actually said instead of playing the liberal narrative game.

Because if the NATO countries become stronger militarily then they won't need NATO anymore. France has been trying to accomplish exactly that, forming a pan-EU military, to no avail. It should be obvious to anyone by Germany and to a lesser extent most of the continental Western European countries actions (or inactions) that they prefer not to be as confrontational against Russia. For example, if it were up to Germany, NATO would not have relentlessly expanded eastward.

There's a reason no president besides Trump have pushed the European allies in NATO to step up their defense spending. It's the same reason no one but Trump have pushed the East Asian allies to step up their spending. Without their reliance on American military support, their natural inclination will be to develop better relationships with their regional superpowers. It is in our interest to make them depend on us for security, because without that dependence they will be free to chart their own diplomatic course, and there would be many more instances when it would not be to our advantage than otherwise. That's because of a very simple reason--the regional superpower is simply much more invested in their own backyard than the faraway superpower.

When push comes to shove, the closer superpower is willing to sacrifice much more treasure and lives to get what it wants. Since they cannot take on the far more powerful neighbor, it's better to accommodate and survive. This is why Ukraine and Taiwan have pitiful militaries despite the level of threat they face, as opposed to say SK vs. NK, Israel vs. Arab states, Pakistan vs. India, etc. They understand that diplomacy, not army, is the key to their survival. Zelensky, the comedian with zero experience in politics or governance, was apparently apparently doesn't understand this plainly obvious fact, and his country sadly is paying the price.

Putin wouldn't fire nukes. He's never even mentioned that. Folks have interpreted something he says to mean nukes.
