Ah an opinion by Caitlin Johnstone. A friend used to send me her stuff, claiming she was one of the few honest journalists out there, which just meant he agreed with her opinions.
    I think she’s a self-aggrandizing flake.

She’s decidedly leftist and principled anti-war. So naturally you have to default to divining her inner thoughts.

I don't want to hijack the thread to talk about her, but I'll say that I haven't read a ton of her stuff. A laughable defense of Assange - laughable because of her outrage that anyone would ever write anything negative about him - and her claimed superiority to the rest of the journalistic world.

Because it’s a war crime to expose war crimes. Stop wrapping yourself in the flag.

Igor Girkin, a former Russian militant commander and prominent critical voice in the Russian milblogger information space, returned to Telegram following a nearly two-month stint in Ukraine and used his return to offer a vitriolic first-hand account of the situation on the frontlines. Girkin posted on Telegram on December 6 to speak on his experiences in Ukraine for the first time since he announced he was leaving to join the Russian army to fight in Ukraine in October.[9] Girkin detailed his multiple and unsuccessful efforts to register and join various units and contentious interactions with Russian and Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) commanders and noted that he finally joined a DNR battalion illegally, which allowed him to deploy to the Svatove area in Luhansk Oblast.[10] Girkin concluded that based on his experience on the frontline, it is clear that Russian forces are suffering from a “crisis of strategic planning” due to the fact that troops are relying only on tactical inertia and not cohering around a wider strategic goal.[11] Girkin also noted that the Kremlin will be unsuccessful in igniting protests in Ukraine with its missile campaign against critical energy infrastructure, further noting that winter weather will not stop Ukrainian forces from advancing.[12] Several other prominent milbloggers amplified Girkin’s story and conclusions, emphasizing Girkin’s past leadership role in hostilities in Donbas in 2014.[13] This scathing critique of the Russian military leadership from one of the most vocal and well-known figureheads of the hyper-nationalist information space, who has now reportedly acquired first-hand experiences of the nuances of frontline life, is likely to exacerbate tension between Russian military leadership and milbloggers and may reignite fragmentation within the ultra-nationalist community itself.

That Duggar is still largely dominating the conversation here is as sad as it is fascinating to me.
Just for fun I went to RT.com and read their top 6 or 7 stories yesterday. If that or a similar source is where people are getting their news, it totally makes sense to me how someone could get sucked on to the PUTI train.

The Kremlin views Girkin as a loose cannon and not a good fit for Russia’s settled approach, to the conflict, which is disciplined, methodical, slow grinding attrition.

He posts like 20 times a day - only way to clean up the thread if you don't like his ramblings is to block him unfortunately.

Does “clean up the thread” mean restrict participation only to those who agree ?

Better idea: start another forum and call it “Too Tepid.” Maybe that would be a better fit for you.

Which I did forever ago. I am all for open conversation, but he isn’t that. It’s wasted energy.

Obviously I didn't block you - other opinions are OK - even if they are wrong - but some of your stuff is borderline trolling and I'm pretty sure you are fully aware of that.

There is nothing I find more annoying than the facile and petulant accusation of trolling. I haven’t complained about my ten or more disputants ganging up on me.

Blocking DD would make this thread much better. It seems that 70% + of the posts here now are disputing nonsense that he must be posting. Kind of like Q in the covid thread, it just pollutes the thread, but I suppose it provides entertainment for some so carry on as you will.

Actually, most would probably appreciate a serious and well thought out counter view. Unfortunately that isn't what you bring to the table, and why the majority don't even bother to engage...other than to occassionally counter the more ridiculous of the posts. It's generally just garbage that clutters the thread.
