Apparently, Ukraine and Russia were close to some sort of agreement, in March, in Istanbul. Maybe Russia never intended to take over the whole of Ukraine with an expeditionary force. I don’t think they even mentioned regime change. That’s what the US does.

Peaceful my ass ... The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the arms industry that depends on it for billions in profits, has become the most aggressive and dangerous military alliance on the planet. Created in 1949 to thwart Soviet expansion into Eastern and Central Europe, it has evolved into a global war machine in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America Africa and Asia. Chris Hedges: NATO — Most Dangerous Military Alliance on Planet
From wiki ... In terms of active-duty personnel, [Russia is] the world's fifth-largest military force, with at least two million reserve personnel. From my WaPo reference earlier ... “100,000 troops massing on the border.”
“Vladimir Putin's goal in his invasion has never been something quick and has never included Kiev.” “The Russian countermove (and there is always a countermove, these guys play chess, remember) is to deepen the border with Ukraine and make it strategically impossible for NATO to cross in force.” “The conquest of Ukraine being treated as a SMALL UNIT EXERCISE [CAPS mine] tells us much.“ https://www.theamericanconservative.com/whither-ukraine/
Then they should be finished More than 100,000 Russian military casualties in Ukraine, top U.S. general says
Astonishingly, Russia has lost more troops than were inserted into theatre. In other news: the Ghost of Kyiv just racked up his 71st kill.
Take your pick ... https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...-about-russias-military-buildup-near-ukraine/
Are you sure Biden’s alive ? Seems like Weekend at Bernie’s with him. They’re almost having to prop him up these days.
This is off topic but this reminded me of a story my dad told. He was in the navy in the early fifties and says we invaded Libya and he took part. He says as he exited the landing craft he was met by children handing out ice cream cones. My dad was a habitual storyteller so take the story for what it is worth.
I’m sure you’ve paid more attention to the war than I have, but are you really claiming that the troops Russia had on the border a month before the invasion is all they’ve used in the 10 months since the invasion?
Until recently, yes. In fact, there were as few as 50k troops in theatre late August. Until recently, Russia’s strategy was being described as policing actions by an expeditionary force.
Just wondering and laughing at posters spin .... at what point of Russia getting it's ass kicked did they decide to get serious, note they still haven't made any significant gains so maybe they're still playin' rope-a-dope. LOL
