“Kids there’ve been some nuclear explosions and everyone on earth is certain to die horribly, but we need to understand that it was very important for our government to help Ukraine recapture the annexed Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia territories from the Russians.”

    “What are those places, Daddy?”

“I don’t really know. Let’s go check the globe!”

    “Yay! I love learning geography!”

One would hope some of his fellow Kremlin scumbags can see the writing on the wall and want to cut their losses and get out (meaning Putin meets a balcony and some other POS takes his place; but at least this insane and needless war can come to an end if that happens.)

You wake up one morning to discover there are intruders in your home. One would hope that you’d have the sense to vacate your home and find somewhere else to go.

over 200k have left, neighboring countries are being overrun with working age males. That isn't helping the economy in Russia

if this is true, it is meaningful not only because it happened but they allowed it to be known that it happened. Putin is supposedly off to a bunker somewhere, I wonder if it will become his forever home.

Do you think the problem is management or is it lack of resources? The weapons and troops that they have are obviously not professional grade and that isn't going to be changed in time for this war.

Putin confronted by insider over Ukraine war, U.S. intelligence finds (msn.com)

A member of Vladimir Putin’s inner circle has voiced disagreement directly to the Russian president in recent weeks over his handling of the war in Ukraine, according to information obtained by U.S. intelligence.

The information was deemed significant enough that it was included in President Biden’s daily intelligence briefing and shared with other U.S. officials, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence.

The discontent that the member of Putin’s inner circle expressed related to what the insider considered mismanagement of the war effort and mistakes being made by those executing the military campaign, according to one of the people.

The new intelligence, coupled with comments from Russian officials, underscores divisions within Putin’s upper echelon, where officials have long been loath to bring bad news to an autocratic Russian leader who is seen as more isolated that at any time in his 22-year rule.

So we keep hearing about how Winter is going to be a big factor in this war. But I wonder how much of that belief is based on old news. So much has changed since WWII with regards to technology and winter itself.

Technology has advanced so much I have to believe the difficulties of supply logistics in winter have been greatly improved. But I really don't want to talk about that too much, more I just wanted to bring up the question...

How much more mild is winter in Ukraine now then it was in WWII? Not to get tied down on if it is Global Warming, or natural fluctuations, I wonder how much winter has changed in Ukraine/Russia since the 1940s.

As someone who grew up in Michigan in the 60s/70s, I know for a fact winter is MUCH MUCH more mild in Michigan now than it was then. Growing up we always had snow on the ground (and a lot of it) from December till around March. From my family still living up there, I understand snow isn't anywhere near as constant and they go long periods without snow on the ground during the winter.

This article - Climate Change Will Reshape Russia

says that Russia has been warming at a rate of 2.5x the rest of the world. And that snow cover was at a record low in 2020.

And Ukraine is in a more southern portion of what was the USSR. It isn't the Siberian front where the action is taking place.

All in all, I don't think winter is going to play as big of a role in this war as many are predicting.

Winter will be a factor only in that there will be no foliage to hide behind, making it easier for aircraft and drones.

Winter will be a huge factor in Europe, where people will be freezing to death and resolve for sanctions severely tested.

    For US Marine ...

⚔ Nuclear Threat, But by Whom?

Russia is riding out Ukraine's offensive, knowing once it is done there is no way to replace Ukrainian losses leaving Ukrainian forces vulnerable and overextended.

Russia's next move will be fielding 300,000+ forces to take advantage of this. Russia is in no way in need of using nuclear weapons.

The US knows all of this. Once the Ukrainian offensive reaches its full extent something needs to be done because it will be Ukraine and its sponsors left in a desperate position with no options.

Nuclear false flag? US first strike? Difficult to know but something we need to be aware of, ask about, and raise awareness regarding the dangers of this reality.

As expected, the massively spread message about the gold teeth torn out by Russian soldiers turned out to be a fake. Everyone involved prefers to remove their tweets silently instead of an apology.

This pro-Ukrainian site plays up the myth of Snake Island. Recall that Western media regurgitated the narrative of a defiant garrison telling a Russian ship to “F-O!” before dying to man.

Reality: they were all taken prisoner.

The main element of winter is the human factor: who can suffer greater privation. At the moment that appears to be Ukraine. Also Ukraine’s best natural barriers are its rivers. Those are Russia’s best hope for re-establishing solid, continuous lines and rebuilding strength. But in winter I’m pretty sure those rivers freeze and will allow Ukraine to keep moving. It all depends on how motivated they are to keep military pressure on Russia. They certainly don’t lack for supplies.

Why would they be mad? Weren't you telling us how this is all just a brilliant strategy that they teach Russian officers?

The current Ukrainian counter-offensives correlate with Russian troops in New Russia having been drawn down to an all-time low, perhaps as few as 50k as-against a 1,000 km long contact line.

Tens and tens of thousands of Ukrainian troops were husbanded for a big push, in Spring 2023, but were pressed into action early.

For many weeks, with the aid of US intel, Ukraine trained on areas where Russian troops were sparse, or absent, and pushed into those vectors.

These advancements are for PR effect, hoping to create unrest in Russia, like sanctions were supposed to have done, all this before Russia has had an opportunity to position 300,000+ new troops.

So now this wasn't a brilliant Russian strategy to run away?

Apparently, Russia doesn’t consider it necessary to expend lives to hold territory that can be easily retaken. Why fight to the death when it’s unnecessary to one’s eventual goals ?

the biggest challenge will be whether the soils will support the mechanized equipment. if too soft, movement becomes difficult, especially with drones and shoulder fired missiles

I wonder how well they'll freeze in the south. Internet sources show Kherson climate to be a few degrees warmer than mine. I wouldn't drive a car, needless to say a tank, across our rivers most winters.

Also, the invading force is likely to endure more more privation.

In general, I don't think the idea of winter being Russia's ally is as applicable here.
