Now we have reported leaks in pipe lines Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2.
Berlin Not Ruling Out Possible Attack on Nord Stream Pipelines
Three out of four of the pipes belonging to the Baltic Sea pipeline network are damaged, an inside source told DER SPIEGEL. Officials do not believe it is a coincidence, and that it could be a plot to inject uncertainty into European gas markets.

According to information obtained by DER SPIEGEL, the security plans for other pipelines and gas supply facilities are now the focus of urgent review.
    ........
According to a spokesman, both pipelines are affected. Capacity sank to zero in an unplanned manner, according to market information that operators must report.
    .........
Investigations are currently underway, said a spokesman for Nord Stream AG, which is responsible for Nord Stream 1. No information is available yet regarding the extent of the damage. In the area around Bornholm, the spokesperson said, the pipelines are located about 70 meters below the water surface. According to Nord Stream 2 spokesman Ulrich Lissek, the pipelines are laid in such a way that simultaneous damage to several pipelines, for example by a single ship accident, is highly unlikely. Asked if he was aware of similar incidents involving offshore pipelines, he said: "I’ve never heard of any.”

According to the article the leak in Nord Stream 2 was detected by Danish F-16 fighter jets southeast off the island of Bornholm in the Baltic sea. That section of pipeline runs from Ust-Luga Russia to Greifswald Germany. Nord Stream 1 runs from Vyborg Russia to Greifswald Germany, Time to send a pig down the pipelines.

    Working Principle of Pigging
Pigging in pipeline starts with installation of a pig trap in the pipeline that includes a pig launcher and a pig receiver. Pig trap is typically an over-sized section in the pipeline, reducing to the normal diameter, to accommodate the tight-fitting pig. Without interrupting the flow, pig is inserted into the pipeline using the pig trap. As pig travel along the pipeline, there are a number functions the pig can do, from clearing the line to inspecting the interior. A similar pig trap is located at the end of the pipe to receive the pig once it has traveled the required length of the pipeline. The pig receiver acts as a point to remove the pig from the pipeline, as well as any debris the pig has knocked loose. In the pipeline, pig is either pushed by the line fluid flow pressure or pulled through by a cable.

Simplified for you: (1) do not believe in anything like viruses (2) do not believe in anything like a benevolent US foreign policy.

As a former Army officer with three children in the military, it's my personal opinion that you are completely out of your mind. The gap between the US military and the 2nd best military on earth is comparable to the difference in skill and ability between the Buffalo Bills and Vanderbilt.

You seem like quite the vocal Keyboard Kommando. I assume you've been telling everyone that there was no way Russia would win this war and it would lead to the destabilization and collapse of the current regime. Whether they were defeated conventionally or were dragged into a guerrilla war that completely depleted their military and economic stability, this was a monumental strategic blunder. That's what I told people I know back in February and so far, so good.

The only thing Russia and China have going for them are nuclear weapons. The Russians have historically fielded some of the least effective armies in the world and China's army is basically a cheap knockoff of the overated and incompetent Russo/Soviet Army.

Could this be a war between oligarchs?

Who stands to benefit from this obvious act of sabotage and who will be hurt the most?

It certainly seems to remove Putin threat to shut off gas as it would seem that just pretty much happened. Was this a way to carry out the threat without having to face further int'l blowback

You’re argument is not with me. Rather, your argument is with any number of former US military, former State Dept, former CIA, et.al., that I’ve already cited.

We were all raised to acknowledge the notion that some people lived in countries which governments were rapacious, imperialistic and destructive.

But we could never bring ourselves to consider the possibility that such might apply to our own country.

It simply cannot be the case. Because it’s our country. And by definition, we cannot be that country.

It's like hearing people tell me how weak and overrated Georgia or Alabama, etc, are all the time. They have a million reasons, minutia and theories. I guess if you hear something enough (and I'm sure it helps if you really WANT to believe it because if meshes with your own personal desires) you'll start to believe it. Yet in the end, those teams just keep winning and eventually we have to face that all that insight we were given from all those self proclaimed experts really WAS bullcrap. Just more useless "blah, blah, blah" from people who like to hear themselves talk.

I guess if we someday lose a war, you can jump up and scream, "Ah-HA!!! I was right!!!". But until then, we'll have to go by all the evidence and results to date which suggests you're crazy. Not you personally, just your fringe position.

What do you mean “if we someday lose a war” ??? Since WWII, that’s about all we do. Our track record is good enough reason for us to stand down, in our foreign policy, and learn to get along in the world.

I think the problem you have is believing our government exists to help usher humanity into a new golden age of freedom, harmony, peace and prosperity. Actually, it's primary role is to only benefit the lives of it's citizens. It's kept on track by the voting power of a populous that includes a number of greedy, ignorant or indifferent individuals.

It's far from a perfect system and is infected with many of the negative aspects of the human condition that undoubtedly slows it's progress towards creating a better future. The US has a history of suspicious, paranoid and intolerant political divisions that tend to think the worst of those who share different visions. And we live in a world where numerous governments and populations have numerous competing interests.

It's not the optimal situation and it could definitely be better. However, it could also be worse. A LOT worse. It is what it is.
