so many of your sources routinely trace right back to Russian propaganda. Why is that?

    South Front - Media Bias/Fact Check (mediabiasfactcheck.com)
    • Overall, we rate South Front a strong conspiracy site based on secretly promoting Russian Propaganda that is not always factual.

Really, I want you to keep going. Nothing gives the left and right more common cause than an obvious Russian agent. A smart Russian agent starts a thread under one name advocating a return to slavery, then starts a second thread under another name advocating a precise formula for slave reparations and calls everyone who shoots holes in his plan a white supremacist.

You need to go back and review your instructions before — zip! — you find yourself in a penal platoon hunting “Nazis” in the Donbas.

Pfft, you don’t even have to be a smart Russian these days. You can throw an American presidential election with $400 in Facebook ads.

So everything that comes from Russian sources is propaganda? As with our own media and government the answer lies somewhere in between and seeking out sources for references and points of clarification is what must be done. Giving what I am seeing and hearing happening on a global scale as well as the actions of politicians should give everyone pause.

do you believe anything that comes out of Russian press doesn't have a propaganda spin to it? China? Both countries strictly control their press and use it to get their message out. If you think those messages aren't crafted to spin everything the way they want it spun, complete with misinformation, you aren't as sophisticated as I once thought you were. Believe it or not, there is a difference in information between countries that allow freedom of the press and those that do not

And you think we don't? We accentuate what we want people to believe versus telling them the bad news.

so you see no difference between countries with freedom of the press and those without? I don't think the press here, at least the legit press (AP, Reuters, etc) publish propaganda that is intended to mislead. If you can't see the difference, there isn't much left to discuss

Well, that’s to disabuse the notion that everything you don’t like is from a Russian bot. Not all Westerners have been Ukracized.

And I have published stories from those sources. The latest one deals with aluminum and nickle imports from Russia. I've posted stuff from Der Spiegel, BBC and other sources as well that show the extent to which the News media in the US is trying be mum about. I referenced podcasts as well. The only thing I have not done is provide twitter stuff which seems to be the go for some members here. All in all I think I have provided a good round of sources for material to contemplate.

As for a free press it certainly has advantages but when the free press pushes an agenda and elides the truth is it really free?

Sure. No one has ever said free press has to be true press. But true press is free press. Controlled press is never true.

    Precisely.

The counter to a particular “free press” P.O.V isn’t propaganda, it’s other free press that might legitimately have a different opinion or give a more neutral assessment. Sometimes the press gets fed western propaganda, but if you stick with legitimate sources you eventually cut through that. When you respond with obvious propaganda it’s not presenting a different legitimate viewpoint to ponder, it’s still JUST propaganda. Shocking how many Americans don’t get this. But as we see people will apparently believe anything they see put out there as legitimate (on YouTube or podcasts or blogs or whatever). First rule should always be “consider the source”.

There is a big difference between occasional bias (which is human nature) and "let me me check with my government minder and make sure this o.k. to print". And the U.S. has both left-leaning and right-leaning press, so half the press is going to be inclined to insult the current administration or maximize negative current events, and the other half is going to try to hide it or downplay it.

Have to wonder if this guy put himself in a position to get captured to gtf away from putin

Top Russian Commander of Invading Army Captured by Ukraine—Report

Images and video shared on Twitter and Telegram purportedly show Lieutenant General Andrei Sychevoi among a group of Russian troops handcuffed on their knees with one social media user saying they were near Balakliya, in the Kharkiv region.

Military analyst Rob Lee tweeted "Russian Telegram channels are already [pointing] the finger at Lieutenant General Sychevoi who is the 'West' group commander responsible for this area."
On the uniform of the man believed to be Sychevoi are the two stars worn by Russian lieutenant generals. Two stars are also on display on the shoulders of his ceremonial uniform he is wearing in images shared of him on social media.

I will maintain a healthy skepticism. The odds that a fish like that would get close enough to the front to get caught are minimal. But if this is true, that’s a catch on the order of Sam Houston getting Santa Ana.

Putin Allies Reportedly Admit To Making 'Mistakes' And Are 'Worried' In Light Of Ukrainian Military Gains (msn.com)

Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly facing growing dissent from his allies as the Ukraine war continues for the seventh month in a row with no end in sight. What Happened: Vladimir Solovyov, a top Russian news presenter and a staunch supporter of the country's leader, said, "I'm worried. Naturally, we want for our guys to crush [the other side] and only to advance, but life doesn't work that way," The Daily Beast reported. Solovyov has even been dubbed “Putin’s Voice” during his Wednesday radio show, Full Contact.

Another Putin ally Andrey Gurulyov, who is a retired member of the Russian military and a deputy of the 8th State Duma, in a nightly program, The Evening With Vladimir Solovyov, said, "Today, I believe there is a difficult situation on one of our fronts. Yes, Ukrainians concentrated their assault troops there and started to advance."
    ........................
In response, Solovyov said that no matter what happens, there would be no peace deal with Ukraine. "There won't be a Minsk-3… The frontline can breathe, there can be local failures, there could be excited screams coming from Kharkiv and Kyiv. That won't change our general hard line… we'll suffocate this serpent. There are no other options… We'll bury as many of them as we need to," he said.

Meanwhile, according to an Express report, the district council members in St Petersburg have drafted a petition calling for the Russian President to be removed from office for committing "treason." The report said that the Smolninsky council, on Wednesday evening, adopted a petition stating that Putin's decision to invade Ukraine brought in tremendous loss of life and led to economic difficulties in Russia, along with strengthening NATO.
