Russia has rotated a million troops into and out of Ukraine. Less experienced troops get easier assignments like defending territory instead of engaging in offensive operations.
What you have written is likely true, clearly obvious, and not particularly relevant to the question of why Russia, on the cusp of dramatic strategic victory, suddenly needs 137,000 more soldiers to fight a minor sideshow “special military operation” (i.e. not “war” or “invasion”). Russia is rotating forces in and out of Ukraine, and Russia is putting green and/or understrength formation in defensive or garrison duties. Well, duh. One does not need to be a military genius to figure that out. One could even be a guy who never saw combat in his life, and never served one day in the military, but liked to talk tough because he has read a lot of books about what other actual warriors have done (you know, someone like Putin). Of course, troops cannot maintain readiness indefinitely while at the front, and of course the defense is the stronger (easier) position in war. It still does not explain why Russia needs 137,000 more conscripts (if we we are being honest about who these rifles are going to be) in Ukraine when they have already killed 200,000 (your claim) Ukrainian troops with contemptuous ease. You know what does explain it? This: You are losing. And Putin knows that you are losing. You just have not been informed of it or put it together for yourself yet.

Ukraine went from firing ~60 shells into the Donbas to 2500+ in just a few days. Why do you think they did that? Biden wanted war to help Democrats in the midterms. People like myself and strategic analyst Gregory Copley were saying that last year. And when a Beijing-drafted ceasefire agreement was likely to be signed by Putin and Zelensky, Biden, with help from Boris John, queered the deal. Biden is prepared to fight to the last Ukrainian. Zelensky will fight to the last US dollar.

Donetsk and Luhansk declared their independence in 2014. Why? A pro-Russian democratically elected Ukrainian president had been illegally replaced in a coup instigated by the US with heavy neo-Nazi involvement. The new illegally elected president talked about oppressing the majority Russian-speakers in the Donbas (Donetsk + Luhansk). Limit and perhaps eventually ban the Russian language. Reduce the number of Russian language TV shows for starters. The Ukronazi component of the military and government considered the Russian-speakers "untermenchen," non-Aryan and subhuman/inferior. So Donetsk and Luhansk declared their independence while the US armed and trained the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Nazi-infested Azov battalion. Remember when the province of Kosovo stated they wanted independence from Russia's little brother Serbia? Christian Serbia objected and Bill Clinton/NATO bombed Belgrade for 78 days. Kosovo and it's Albanian Muslims couldn't have survived economically without narco-trafficking. Meaning they couldn't be a legitimate state. Putin simply played by the rules established by the US/NATO in Serbia. Donetsk and Luhansk declared their independence in 2014 and Ukraine shelled them for 8 years. Russia had as much right to protect the Donbas Russian-speakers as the US had to protect Islamist/Al Qaeda-connected narco and human-trafficking Kosovo. And for the record, Russia annexed Crimea in exactly the same way as the US annexed Texas. Another example of Putin playing by OUR RULES.

As a midshipman at UF, I spent enough time on subs and ships that I knew — yo, ho, yo, ho — it was not a pirate’s life for me. In the Marines I had a couple of deployments at sea on MEUs, which confirmed my suspicions. When it came time to leave active-duty Marine Corps in 2017 to keep my family in California, the one service I did not consider switching to was the Navy. God bless those guys who can do that sea duty.

That was terrifying to think about. My late father-in-law was a radio man and talked about picking up your fellow Marines after the war that had been on Guadalcanal.
