This post has such a familiar ring to it. Remember this one? . Putin was telling the truth he wouldn’t invade. He was forced to do it because he had already invaded the Donbas and Ukraine was fighting back. So, Putin truthfully said he wasn’t sending in more troops except for the 100,000+ he sent deep into Ukraine. Got it.
So what is your explanation of all of that Russian ammunition spontaneously exploding all over the place? First on the Moskva, then at the Crimea airport. It is so unfortunate, amirite? Of course the Ukrainian Nazis said they did it but we both know that is a lie…..
I would also like to know how it is possible for Ukraine to “invade” Donbas. Donbas is sovereign Ukrainian territory illegally occupied by Russia. Ukraine can’t “invade” Donbas anymore than the Free French forces “invaded” Paris in 1944 when they took it back from the Nazis (actual Nazis for our Russian guest).
Ukraine almost lost a HIMARS. A Russian collaborator was caught spotting Ukrainian units and equipment, including the HIMARS launcher. Ironically, the spy was wearing a NASA T-shirt when he was caught. He may not have been as bright as he thought he was. Uftaipan asks: As to calling Kissinger a Nazi, that’s a really strange thing to write. What are you trying to say? I'm trying to say that he reminds me way, way, way too much of Dr. Strangelove, especially the last 5 minutes of the movie, I mean that really is "Henry Kissinger" isn't it? ............
I’m afraid not. Dr. Strangelove came about well before Kissinger was well known outside of the strategic studies academic community. As to calling him a Nazi (even humorously), it’s probably important to remember that he was a Jewish refugee from the Third Reich who suffered actual beatings from the SA (brown shirts) as a teenager for the crime of being Jewish. Like all Jewish refugees, his family lost everything when they fled Germany in 1938. He joined our Army and helped in the fight against his former countrymen. Just something to keep in mind. I know he’s not always everyone’s favorite person for his political views and service during the Nixon Administration.
Thank you for the correction - I should do my homework, I did not realize his background was Jewish and thats a terrible mistake to make. My apologies to anyone offended by that. Regarding your second paragraph, count me in as one whom was not impressed with his performance as an adviser to the President at the time.
I see Marshal Putin is calling up 137,000 more “volunteers” for service in Ukraine, airily brushing off questions as to whether these “volunteers” are actually conscripts or if this is a step toward full mobilization. Weird move, since he’s “winning” and all. https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...60db8a-2472-11ed-a72f-1e7149072fbc_story.html
Outside of the scope of this thread, but one of my favorite Kissinger stories is when he first met Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, to assure her of no special privileges, he said he was an American first, a Republican second, and a Jew third. She said, “That’s okay, sonny. We read from right to left over here.”
Golda grew up in Wisconsin, so I’m sure she understood and why she could make a joke about it. But that’s a funny story.
The freeze out begins. Aug 31 plans are to shut down Nordstream 1 and the nuclear plant is now off the grid to Ukraine. Will Nordstream 1 come back online to Europe? Gazprom to shut Nord Stream gas pipeline for three days of maintenance Natural gas in Europe settled at another record high on Friday after Gazprom (OTCPK:OGZPY) said it will stop the Nord Stream pipeline - working at just 20% capacity since late July - for three days of maintenance starting August 31. Russian-Held Nuclear Plant Disconnects From Ukraine Grid for First Time - Energoatom The vast nuclear power plant supplied more than 20% of Ukraine's electricity needs and its loss would pile new strain on the government, which is already bracing for a difficult wartime winter of potentially crippling energy shortages.
This feels big - I have always understood that when mobilization was ordered, there would be much more significant domestic resistance. This is worded in terms of supposedly not being mobilization, but it sure feels like it
