I actually don’t know much about Russian subs. I do know that our subs have been able to fire precision cruise missiles at land targets since the late 1980s at least. I would assume that the Russians would have developed the same capability by now. But then again we have all made a lot of false assumptions about Russian capabilities lately.
I hope that we would not consider trading away such a huge strategic advantage for a temporary tactical advantage. Ukraine can still export grain by road and rail to other European ports. It’s not ideal but not worth trading away sanctions for. We need to make clear those sanctions remain in place until the day all Russian forces are completely out of Ukraine, including Crimea and Donbas, and a peace treaty with teeth has been signed. Presently, Russia is still on the offensive, so their thinking is why not lift the blockade and physically take the ports weeks or months from now.
perhaps we should be planting wheat instead of ethanol and distributing gmo seed to other countries to help them increase their yield?
Just my opinion, but the only reason this is being offered now is the publishing of US anti ship missiles being deployed to the region. That makes the entire Russian Black Sea fleet sitting ducks. Once that capability is in theatre the Russians will back off or risk the sinking of major tonnage. So they might as well try to negotiate for something
Russia's Navy apparently has to rely on spare parts from Chinese household appliances to keep their ships running. I am somewhere between "that is sad" and "that is hilarious". Russian Navy relies on Chinese repair parts, sailors refuse battle orders over safety concerns: Ukrainian inte
I would wager that Russia has satellites and drones looking for deployment or to destroy them in transit prior to deployment. Hopefully Ukraine succesfully utilizes them and conceals them to keep them operational.
Putin is passing laws to criminally prosecute deserters even without war declaration. Russia is losing brainpower rapidly, troops defecting to fight against Russia. New Punishments Await Russian Defectors as Putin Grows Alarmed Over Ukraine | World Report | US News Russia is considering a new law that would hand 20-year prison sentences to battlefield defectors and others who volunteer to fight for foreign armies – the latest sign of President Vladimir Putin’s growing alarm at the state of his invasion of Ukraine. The new bill introduced by leaders in the State Duma – the lower chamber of Russia’s legislature – would add penalties to the existing criminal code for those who participate “in an armed conflict, hostilities or other actions with the use of weapons and military equipment on the territory of a foreign state for purposes contrary to the interests of the Russian Federation,” according to translation of the proposed text. The most grievous violators, including those who contribute to raising a militia that would operate outside Russia or indeed against its military, could face as long as 20 years in prison and fines exceeding 2.5 million rubles, or roughly $40,000. ............................ “Russia has seen significant brain drain over the past three months,” Colin Clarke, senior research fellow at the private intelligence firm The Soufan Center says. “The longer the war drags on, the worse it looks for Putin, and thus, the more he will seek to control the population and the information environment within Russia.” “This could be a sign that the Kremlin is increasingly concerned that the war is becoming ever more unpopular domestically,” Clarke adds. Several Kremlin watchers familiar with inner workings in Moscow tell U.S. News the introduction of the bill reflects growing concern among Russian elites of the rates of defectors on the battlefield in Ukraine, along with reports that hundreds are volunteering to join specialized units in the Ukrainian army composed of disaffected Russian citizens. ............................................ But among the most discomforting factors facing the Kremlin is a new, specialized Ukrainian army unit known as the Freedom of Russia Legion composed of Russian defectors. Established weeks after Russia’s invasion on Feb. 24, legion leaders said earlier this month that they receive hundreds of applications to join each day.
I've tried clearing cache, different browser, and restarting. Nothing - just blue bird. I'd think just me but multiple users sounds like GC. Email mods and let them know too.
It's been like that since I can remember. I usually scroll to the post and hit refresh once or twice and it will show.
I'll go back to the cnn copies for now. Don't know what the issue is but if it's multiple people there's got to be a server thing going on.
