Kind of ironic that someone nicknamed the “Riverboat Gambler” would take such a meek and overly cautionary position.
That is big. I understand the critique but I disagree. The day after the big parade and Putin does not want to hear that things should be shut down, especially from Xi
The big bad russian army would have already swept across Ukraine as expected by now. Pretty obvious that is not going to happen. Just death and mindless destruction (and war crimes ) to show for their efforts so far. Cut their losses and gtfo.
Russia can have their ceasefire when they are back on their side of the border. I can’t think of one reason to encourage Ukraine to give Russia a respite before that is so.
Seen on the internet and posted for effect: “The obvious flaw in the whole “Russia is too slow” meme is that it is completely dependent on the claimers own prior assessments of what would happen and how quickly. They thus get to argue that Russia is failing because they were wrong. This by the way is a very typical style of argument within American politics. First, you start by telling your audience what the other side is doing and planning, and then you show how that is wrong, crazy, fill-in-the-blank. Look closely, and you’ll see it all the time. I noticed it just the other day in a Tucker Carlson piece that someone had posted. It began with a long bit about what the opposition was doing and thinking, then argued against that description. At this time, its not just Tucker nor one political point of view, this is “The American Way.” It is an easy way to win an argument, as you are only arguing against what you said about the other side to begin with, and not with any sort of facts, nor even a live opponent who could punch back. If you want to know why America is now a failed state, this ‘Russia is too slow’ meme points the way, because this is exactly how Trump, Biden, Pelosi, Cruz, etc, etc, etc have risen to power. Yes, it works as an argument to be presented to stupid people who’ve had their public education system dismantled and who thus don’t even know that they are ignorant and poorly educated … but it fails as a way of operating in ‘the real world’. As everyone else in the world can see today.”
