Considering the kleptocracy of Russia....do they even have functioning nukes? I know they have scary stuff like cluster bombs but that's one area, like the tanks, that they can steal/skim from. Not like they regularly use them to figure out that something doesn't work.

Not that I want to find out btw, but I'm starting to doubt they're as capable as they claim.

So any one who disagrees with Putin is a nazi who hates Russia and anyone who disagrees with trump is a communist who hates America. No parallels there at all, none.

About right LOL. Nevermind that Russians have Nazis in their military, and they're the ones acting a heck of a lot more like Hitler/Nazis. But sure the Jewish guy's the Nazi. And the Ukranians are the bad guys, not the ones actually raping children.

You can't make that kind of thinking up.

They have shown they aren’t as technically advanced. Their tactics are questionable too. The use of a conscripts also hinders the Russians. Their nukes may not all work and their PGMs may not all work either. I guess this is where quantity could overcome quality.
They are still a dangerous crap show.

Is that a gamble we are willing to take. Even if only a fraction of their nukes work, we are all effed.

"Finnish government publishes security report with assessment of possible NATO membership amid Ukraine invasion

From CNN's James Frater in Brussels

    .....
The wide-ranging report included an assessment on whether Finland should purse closer cooperation with NATO and considered the effects of a possible NATO membership.

If Finland and Sweden become full NATO members, the report said “the threshold for using military force in the Baltic Sea region would rise,” enhancing “the stability of the region in the long term.”

Membership would include signing up to NATO’s founding principle of collective defense — commonly referred to as Article 5 — which means that an attack against one NATO ally is considered as an attack against all allies.

For Finland, the report outlined that “the most significant effect of its possible NATO membership would be that Finland would be part of NATO’s collective defence, and be covered by the security guarantees enshrined in Article 5.”"
    .......

Congrats, Russia & Russian supporters, you just proved why NATO is needed & actually strengthened NATO, and also are increasing its numbers. Invading Finland didn't work out well for you before.

"More bodies were found, some tortured, after Russians retreated from northeast Ukraine, officials say

From CNN's Yulia Kesaieva in Lviv and Tim Lister

In the days since Russian forces left the Sumy region of northeastern Ukraine, authorities say a growing number of bodies have been discovered.

"There are more than 100 dead among the civilians in the Sumy region. Unfortunately, this number is growing every day," Dmytro Zhyvytskyi, head of Sumy regional military administration, said in a briefing Wednesday.

"A lot of people found dead with their hands tied with the signs of tortures, shot in the head," he added.
Zhyvytskyi alleged that "there are people who are held captive and there are daily negotiations for them to be exchanged or set free. A lot of people whose fate remains unknown as of today.""

I get not wanting the leader of Germany to go. If Zelenski was seen hugging him the stories about the nazification would gain a small amount of credence. I like reforming the independent Warsaw pact and calling it a defense force against all outside aggressors.

I think he’s angrier that Germany has been the slowest to come around on pretty much everything due to their reliance on Russia for energy.

    Question(s) for the BOARD:

With Western Military hardward flooding in now, will this be a long drawn out stalemate?

A redfined border situation akin to N/S Korea?

    An Escalation?

An Escalation with tactical, or worse, intercontinental nukes involved?

Really depends. If Ukraine is willing to let Donbas & the other separatist region leave then they can come up with a border like the DMZ. If Ukraine won't let them go then it's going to be a stalemate as long as countries keep supplying weapons to Ukraine.

Problem here is if it goes into stalemate then Putin may say screw it & nuke the place. A "if I can't have it no one can" scenario.

I can't see any tactical Nukes being used. Or if they are used I think it ends with global thermonuclear war. As the movie taught us. The only way to win is not to play.

Russian soldiers have been been soaking in radiation for weeks. The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone is the most toxic place on earth and it's been one of the primary staging areas for Russian's invasion. They've been bulldozing, digging trenches and trampling radiation soaked soil since late February. If I'm a med student in Russia, I'm jumping on the first oncology residency that comes along.

My guess is a redefined border.
Russia can feel like a victor that way, but deep down they know that if tiny Ukraine can push back so hard, then they are smart to stop there.

Hopefully they're successful in getting people to see the truth. Need to hack Fox News, too, to break through propaganda

This is just STUNNING to me and suggests yet again that:

    1) Russian political and military leadership simply DON'T CARE about the welfare of their military personnel.

    2) it also suggests the abject IGNORANCE of the common soldier. How on earth could ANY Russian soldier, contractor or logistics personnel NOT KNOW that Chernobyl is one of the most DANGEROUS places on planet earth? And yet they follow orders to dig trenches in the most radioactive soil on the planet? I don't want to sound "unpatriotic" but if an American Officer directed me to do such insanity, I'm pulling off my uniform and hitting the woods late at night.
