The President is helping Ukraine, but not nearly as much as he should be in my opinion. Now I have no idea because I’m not in the President’s inner circle, but I cannot help but cynically wonder if we have been restrained in our decision making by that obvious conflict of interest. To me, this is a failure of basic understanding of strategy. You assign a strategic main effort and subordinate all other considerations to it. The fact that we did not drop our involvement with Russia the day after they invaded Ukraine indicates either that defeating Russia is not our strategic main effort (which it obviously should be) or we have failed to subordinate less important considerations (a renewed Iran deal) to it. Either way, I lay the dead baby at Jake Sullivan’s doorstep and, again, call for the President to put someone in there who knows what they are doing.
Oh fully agree. That should've never happened, and I feel Biden (& the buck stops with the President) needs to do more/obstruct less. I am by no means a Biden person, but he's not Trump. Sullivan needs to go but Biden has to care enough. Feels almost like we're coasting and doing "just enough" and that's going to end with a Putin victory, which means Ukraine decimated, Zelensky dead, and leaves Putin free to move on to the next place.
So somewhere between that kind of passivity on one hand and the enabling and rage tweets we will get if former guy returns to office. This is not just about Ukraine, about time we acted like it.
