There ARE some serious threats to the U.S. with this conflict. Once half the world starts starving, do you think they go to their graves quietly? Would you go to your grave quietly, if you were starving? Or you would you find a place with a lot of food and try to take their food with weapons? (Or blame a prosperous country that could have stopped the starvation, but did not, and exact revenge on that country?) Try to think before you post nonsense.

The U.S. will probably need to get involved militarily before the starving masses worldwide start using all of those AK-47's to get what they want. And they will not be traveling to Ukraine to get it. There are at least a half dozen countries at risk of starving that are capable of forming terrorist organizations similar to ISIL, and yes, these organizations tend to despise the wealthiest countries. Eventually, their violence will reach our shores. Do you prefer to wait for the next 9-11, or would you rather do something to stop the starvation and terrorism sooner rather than later? Sometimes you have to think forward a few months to see where things are headed.

So if a country takes over the rest of the world slowly (but violently), then you're o.k. with that? If a country seizes the world's breadbasket and causes half the world to starve and kill each other for the last bits of food available, you're o.k. with that as long as you are in the other half of the population and they don't bother you? I'm just curious: what's it like to have no soul?

that seems reasonable. My humble opinion is no US troops involved with Kenetic operations against Russians = no soul.

At this point with the shortages worldwide I don't get why some of these subsidies exist nowadays.

    Kudos to Pataki. Cnn live

"Refugees sheltering in factory get modular homes from former New York governor

    From CNN’s Chris Hippensteel

A former New York governor is working with a Hungarian company to provide modular homes for internally displaced refugees in Ukraine.
    ....
The houses were set up near a factory that has served as a temporary shelter for more than 100 refugees, many of them women and children, former New York Gov. George Pataki told CNN.

Pataki’s foundation, the George E. Pataki Leadership and Learning Center, paid Hungary-based company Continest to build, ship and set up the units which are designed to be easy to move and deploy.

“We don't have the resources to provide the quite literally hundreds of thousands that are needed across Ukraine, but we're gonna do everything we can to provide as many as we can,” Pataki said. “We're providing the first step. We just hope that this serves as a model.”"

Not only that, but they dug trenches right in the middle of the worst part of the Red Forest. Normally, you can barely walk over the area only if you have a Geiger counter because the readings are all over the map. In the worst spots, the reading are 100 times the normal X-Ray exposure per hour. BUT, the idiots dug trenches and the level of radiation is greater than the worst exposure you can get outside of walking inside the sarcophagus. What they did in 1986 is they transported all of the contaminated equipment and top soil from all over the zone into pits dug into the Red Forest and then covered them up. When they dug 4 foot trenches, they dug into these highly-concentrated containment pits and exposed themselves to most likely lethal doses. There are an estimated 3,000 Russian soldiers that will die from radiation poisoning.

Plus the ones that came in contact with them or equipment because they didn't know to decontamination, or folks who came in contact with looted goods.

As said earlier the only ones I feel sorry for are the Ukranian National Guard guys that were taken & kept there.

When I said Russia using its reserves to prop up the ruble would eventually bite them, here we are.
Sell the rubles to convert to dollars to pay your debts and watch the ruble tank again, or default. And good luck ever getting another foreign loan while Putin is in power. Unless it’s China, but they don’t want to run afoul of potential western sanctions.
Finance isn’t that complicated, even if the politics can be.

S&P downgrade indicates Russia headed for historic default

"Russia’s departure from northern Ukraine shows evidence of non-combatants being targeted, UK Military Intelligence says: Russia’s departure from northern Ukraine shows evidence of non-combatants being disproportionately targeted, according to a Saturday UK military intelligence update.

The evidence includes mass graves, the fatal use of hostages as human shields and mining of civilian infrastructure, the update said."

"Satellite images show apparent Russian military convoy east of Kharkiv

Satellite images collected and analyzed by Maxar Technologies show an eight-mile-long military convoy moving south through the eastern Ukraine town of Velkyi Burluk on April 8.

The town sits to the east of Kharkiv, close to Ukraine’s border with Russia.

The images show “armored vehicles, trucks with towed artillery and support equipment” making up the convoy, Maxar said.

Some context: Ukrainian officials say major fighting is underway in the east of the country, with heavy shelling reported throughout the Donbas region, ahead of what they are warning may be a major Russian offensive. Ukraine's defense intelligence chief on Friday told CNN that Russian troops are regrouping across the border and plan to advance toward Kharkiv. Officials have urged the evacuation of civilians from the region, as Russian forces shift focus to southern and eastern Ukraine."

Cnn live...trying to force a "referendum" on a "new" region.

"Regional official: Locals rally in Russian-occupied Kherson

    From CNN Staff

Yurii Sobolevskyi, deputy head of the Kherson Regional Council, said locals held a "peaceful rally" Sunday in the Russian-occupied city of Kherson that was dispersed by Russian forces.
    ....

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Sunday said Russians in the town of Nova Kakhovka in Kherson region had used local printing houses to prepare brochures, booklets and posters in preparation for an apparent referendum on the establishment of a so-called "Kherson People's Republic."

Separatists in eastern Ukraine held referendums in 2014 on the formation of "people's republics," in voting that was dismissed by Ukraine and Western countries as a sham.

Serhii Khlan, a member of the Kherson regional council, said Russian sympathizers holding Russian tricolor flags had tried to organize a rally in the city of Nova Kakhovka, posting a photo on Facebook that he said showed a very small turnout compared with a pro-Ukrainian rally.

"This is all you need to know about the probability of a Kherson People's Republic in the Kherson region," he said. "This will not happen, because this is Ukraine!""
    ......
Hopefully for their sake, but this tactic has already been used repeatedly. Pretty sure the majority of Ukranians in the other separatist areas didn't want it either at first...until the only ones that were left were the few Russian sympathizers.

They have a human rights commissioner in Russia? :emoji_joy:

"Russia and Ukraine conduct third prisoner swap, officials say

From CNN’s Amy Cassidy and Nathan Hodge

Russia and Ukraine carried out a third prisoner swap on Saturday, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk announced on Telegram.

“Twelve of our service personnel are coming home, including one female officer. We have also secured the release of 14 civilians, including nine women. In total, 26 of our people,” she wrote.

Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova confirmed the swap on Sunday, writing on Telegram: “Among them are four employees of Rosatom and our valiant servicemen. This morning they landed on Russian soil. Family and friends will see them soon!”

Among the Ukrainian prisoners was Hanna Havrylina, mayor of Hremiach village in the northern Chernihiv region, according to Vereshchuk, who posted a picture of herself with Havrylina on Telegram on Sunday."

Take it back, & other separatist areas too. Then throw the separatists out of Ukraine & to Russia if the want to be Russian so badly. Russia should get nothing and even be made to give back Crimea too. Same thing - throw out Russian supporters.

"Zelensky-Putin meeting possible, but only after expected battle for the Donbas, says Ukrainian official

From CNN's Kostan Nechyporenko in Vasylkiv

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would likely meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin only after an anticipated major battle for the eastern Donbas region, Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said Sunday.

"Ukraine is ready for big battles," Podolyak said in televised remarks. "Ukraine must win them, particularly in Donbas. And after that, Ukraine will get a more powerful negotiating position, from which it can dictate certain conditions. After that, the presidents will meet. That may take two or three weeks."

Ukrainian officials have said they anticipate a major offensive in the Donbas by Russia, which has announced a shift in military strategy focusing on the country's east."
