Just remember when you read a post here from one of the cackling dimwits cheering Putin on that Trump was impeached over withholding military assistance to Ukraine until they provided dirt on Biden.

Wonderful that people's main takeaways are more defense spending and fossil fuels. The exact same takeaways they had before Ukraine was invaded.

Russia imports technology from the West although it's possible that the Chinese could make up for at least some of the loss. In any event a boycott could inflict some pain on Russia but wouldn't affect its ability to fight a war at least in the short term.

Luckily, the Keystone Pipeline has been up and running since 2010, moving oil from Alberta to Illinois and Texas, as well as oil depots in Oklahoma. That was simple!!

What for? I picture him getting crayons and a coloring placemat when he goes to a restaurant. And I'm a Republican that voted for him.

Wonderful that there are so many who think that means those supporting being independent of other countries for supplies, materials, etc, think that automatically means destroy the world.

Guess what? There are always Hitlers, Putins, etc. So yes, robust defense is important.

You know what those wonderful electric cars use? Yep natural resources need to be mined elsewhere to make them. These are deficiencies covid exposed & have been discussed so to say that it's a takeaway from this is disingenuous.

Keystone needs to be opened. There needs to be a ramping up of oil because like it or not, life still functions with oil. No one said don't focus on doing it safely. No one said don't focus on clean energy sources. But you can't flip a switch like SOME want to do & say "everyone get Teslas and plant some trees & sing "Kumbaya" together". It needs to be done gradually. Otherwise, well you have this type of situation.

Ukraine should've never given up its nukes, or at least brokered heavy military resources. This was only a matter of time.

Putting more weapons in the world that will also be getting hotter and more resource scarce with climate change from fossil fuel usage sounds like a fun future to live in.

That is even more ridiculous since the entire purpose of the KEystone XL was to bypass existing pipelines to Oklahoma (see eliminate jobs due to eliminating oil storage) and bringing the oil directly to the port of New Orleans to ship oil to Europe.

As soon as someone explains how any of that helps US energy independence I will be all for the pipeline (hint: it doesn't and never was intended to benefit Americans, despite the propaganda camapaign by the bought-and-paid-for right wingers).

Having no way to get to/from places, power the power grid needed for those lovely electrics, and being sitting ducks to megalomaniacs sounds fun too! Again, I said it can be done gradually. Guess what? Mining the materials for the batteries etc destroys & pollutes, too.

I see a lot of snark, but not any real ideas. Russia just launched a first strike invasion of Ukraine. They are very likely going to conquer the country. The threat they pose is obviously real. Putin isn't going to play nice just because you would prefer peace.
