Not that it'll stop him but... "The International Court of Justice orders Russia to immediately halt its invasion of Ukraine From CNN’s Abby Baggini The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague has ordered Moscow to immediately stop its invasion of Ukraine, saying there is no evidence to support its justification of the war. During a hearing Wednesday, the court ruled there was no evidence to support Russian claims that Ukraine was committing genocide in the Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts, whereby Moscow has justified its invasion of Ukraine. .... Ukraine filed a dispute on Feb. 26 against Russia on the basis of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. It asked the ICJ to deliberate on Russian claims that Ukraine was committing genocide in the Donbas. The hearing took place in the Peace Palace in The Hague, where presiding Judge Joan E. Donoghue read out the Court’s order. The preliminary decision was confirmed by a 13-2 vote. A Russian and a Chinese judge were the two to vote against the decision."
Comments about the shelter bombing...apparently they'd written "Children" on 2 of the outside walls but (Cnn) "The Russians are already lying, [saying] that the headquarters of the Azov Regiment was there. But they themselves are well aware that there were only civilians," he continued on Facebook. The Azov Battalion is an ultra-nationalist militia that has since been integrated into the Ukrainian armed forces."
Of course not, no permanent member of UNSC has ever complied with an any international court ruling against them when it comes to the matter of security or sovereignty. This was an article I read a few years ago in relation to China's moves in the SCS, some interesting history. Unless things have changed, it seems that we decided in the 80s that the ICJ has no jurisdiction against the United States. I don't see why Russia can't just pull the same move. Of Course China, Like All Great Powers, Will Ignore an International Legal Verdict
Apparently Russia wants Alaska back as reparations (oh and a part of California) Putin's spin doc demands reparations from US over sanctions, wants Alaska back "Matveychev then said he wants “the return of all Russian properties, those of the Russian empire, the Soviet Union and current Russia, which has been seized in the United States, and so on.” That includes Alaska and even Fort Ross, California, a small area in Sonoma County that was at one point the Russian Empire’s southernmost outpost in North America and was sold off in 1841."
Well, I mean, if they’re going to threaten nuclear war, then we just need to bend over for whatever they want, right?
Listening to an interview by Ezra Klein with Timothy Snyder. If you don't recognize his name, he became very popular after 2016 when we had a threat to freedom and democracy from within. His books about the signs of impending fascism became required reading. I did not realize until this interview that he is first and foremost a scholar of Ukraine, having written five to six books on its history. He just made a point that I thought was pretty interesting. He said the current war is somewhat of a battle over what lesson to take from World War Two. The attempt of an integrated Europe is a claim that the age of empire is over, and that shared sovereignty by surrendering some individual sovereignty is the lesson from WWII and the best model for proceeding, at least in Europe. He said that Ukraine ascribes to that worldview, and that Ukraine actually played a far more significant role in WWII than most appreciate. He said the Russians, including Putin, view themselves as the victim in that war, which of course they were, but take from it that status they can define who is victim, and that they are still being victimized by that war. That is why they call the Ukrainians Nazis.
This fellow presents his solution to the war of Russian aggression at a city council meeting in Plano Tx. Thank me later
I think we should bear in mind that the President often doesn't have the luxury of saying exactly what he thinks/feels at any given moment (previous admin notwithstanding). A good president must weigh the impact of his comments, how they may help or deter the end goals, etc. As someone else mentioned, he also must have clear evidence before making such a stand.....what's good enough for you and me probably isn't the bar necessary for a world leader. I actually credit a politician who may hold off making a statement that would serve to appease the masses, it's much easier to jump on the bandwagon than play the long game (assuming that is the case of course). My hope is that Biden is listening to advisors that have well thought out all aspects of the situation.
Cnn live: "Zelensky adviser claims Ukrainian forces are starting to counterstrike Russian invaders From CNN's Sam Kiley in Kyiv In a statement released on Telegram, adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said the "Ukrainian army is beginning a counterstrike on a number of active directions. This fact is drastically changing the dispositions of the sides." The "Russian administration is trying to find allies whose soldiers would be ready to die on the field," Podolyak said. Some context: According to a UK Ministry of Defence intelligence assessment on Tuesday, the Russian military is calling up reinforcements from across the country as it faces "continued personnel losses" in Ukraine. The assessment said Russia was redeploying forces from as far away as "its Eastern Military District, Pacific Fleet and Armenia" and was increasingly tapping other sources of fighters such as "private military companies, Syrians, and other mercenaries.""
Never heard of these but nice....cnn live "US to provide Switchblade drones to Ukraine, sources say From MJ Lee and Oren Liebermann with earlier reporting from Kylie Atwood President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday additional US assistance to Ukraine including drones, and two sources familiar with the matter tell CNN that, specifically, the US will be providing Switchblade drones, which are small, portable so-called kamikaze or suicide drones that carry a warhead and detonate on impact. .... The smaller Switchblade 300 can hit a target up to 6 miles away, according to specifications provided by the company, while the larger Switchblade 600 can strike more than 20 miles away. Both systems can be set up and launched within minutes. CNN reported earlier today that the Switchblade drones were on Ukraine’s wish list of requested military and technological assistance they are still requesting to share with the US government, according to two sources familiar with the list. These weapons were added to the list after the Ukrainians consulted with congressional partners over the weekend on a draft of the list. The US would have to provide training for the Ukrainian troops if the US gives them those weapons, but the sources familiar with the list said that could be done remotely."
Thank you for your Kremlin propaganda. It is important that folks belonging to both political parties understand what is in our midst. And McGregor is one of you.
Russia moves to seize hundreds of jets planes from foreign owners - CNN Continue to shoot themselves in the foot if they ever get out of this. Good luck ever getting planes leased to them again. And good luck getting parts & service LOL "President Vladimir Putin signed a law Monday as part of the government's anti-sanction measures that will allow Russian airlines to register planes leased from foreign companies in Russia, where they will be issued local certificates of airworthiness, according to a statement from the Kremlin. The bill will make it possible for Russian airlines to keep their foreign leased aircraft and operate the planes on domestic routes, while making it harder for foreign companies to reclaim their jets without Russian government approval."
I mentioned it a few days ago, but good luck getting replacement parts, since most of those aircraft will be Boeing or Airbus. Means their time of flight worthiness is basically zero.
Leveling cities, yet 700 confirmed civilian deaths? Something's not adding up for me, but for the brainwashed I suppose there is no contradiction. Even at 10 times the deaths, concentrated in one city instead of spread across a country of 44 million, is not at leveling cities level.
