Putin really asking for it...from CNN live: "Putin using weapons of mass destruction would be a "game-changer," Polish President says From CNN's Alex Hardie in London Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Sunday that if Russian President Vladimir Putin uses any weapons of mass destruction, it would be a "game-changer" and NATO would have to think seriously about what to do. Speaking in an interview with the BBC, Duda said: "Of course, everybody hopes that he will not dare do that, that he will not use weapons of mass destruction, neither chemical weapons nor biological weapons, nor any form of nuclear weapons. Everybody is hoping that this is not going to happen." He added: "But, as we say in Poland, using a little bit of an English expression, if he uses any weapons of mass destruction then this will be a game-changer in the whole thing." When asked whether Putin using chemical weapons would be a "red line for NATO," Duda responded that "the North Atlantic alliance and its leaders, led by the United States, would have to sit at the table and they will really have to think seriously what to do -- because then it starts to be dangerous not only for Europe, not only for our part of Europe or our region, for central Europe, but for the whole world."" .... He has a point. Chemical/biological/nuclear weapons would possibly drift into other countries & Poland would likely get hit (they're shelling near the border already). So I'm taking this to mean there'd be a serious conversation about Article V.
You have to ask yourself. Putin saw something in Obama to take Krimea. While Trump was in office he didn't do anything and now with Biden in office he invades Ukraine. So what does Putin see in Ibama and Biden that he didn't see in Trump? They are weak. Supposedly during Trump's presidency Putin told Trump he was going to invade Ukraine and Trump told him "you invade Ukraine and I will hit Moscow. Video below.
Cnn live: "Russian airstrike damages historic Ukrainian monastery From CNN's Alex Stambaugh and Lizzy Yee An airstrike damaged Ukraine's historic Holy Dormition Sviatogirsk Lavra, an Orthodox monastery in the Donetsk Oblast region of eastern Ukraine, the country's Parliament said on Telegram. Several people were wounded and taken to a hospital in the eastern town of Sviatogirsk, while others were treated on site. No one was killed, the parliament statement said. The blast, which went off around 10 p.m. local time Saturday, hit 50 meters away from a bridge connecting the right and left banks of the Siverskyi Donets River, near an entrance to the monastery. .... Some 520 refugees were seeking shelter in the monastery, including 200 children. There are around 10,000 refugees and locals in Sviatogirsk town, the statement said."
There is now one former Russian that has placed a million dollar bounty on Putn. I have watched this video, it's 60 minutes in Australia. This Russian now lives in the USA.
Yes they are. More should have been done. Putin didn't do anything while Trump was in office because Trump was already weakening NATO and was receptive/supportive of Putin's regime. Obama didn't do nearly enough, and it was appeasement all over again. Had Trump gotten a second term, pretty sure Putin would've seen it as a green light to do whatever he wanted. So I don't buy FOR A SECOND the whole "well Trump wouldn't have let this happen" argument. Putin wants his Russian Empire. That has nothing to do with who is in the WH and everything to do with an aging megalomaniac who wants to be historically significant.
If Biden had announced he was sending combat troops to assist in Ukraine, you have immediately created a thread criticizing his move. I don’t believe that conservatives or, Republicans for that matter, would support Biden on that.
This is pure conjecture on your part because for one Biden would never put American boots on the ground in Ukraine he already blocked planes. With a country like Ukraine we have other military means that we wouldn't need boots on the ground.
Good article about trying to bypass Russian media controls Russian internet users are learning to beat Putin's internet crackdown - CNN
What would be this supposed strength that President Trump had that President Biden doesn’t? We do don’t see Trump Force Putin out of Ukraine while he was in office. He knew they were there.
Trump's for lack of a better term instability did make for a deterent. I'll give him that. But his OWN WORDS, Trump's own words when this happened dug a hole that he's obviously trying to get out of now for no other reason than concern that he's lost support. Trump officials/supporters helped dig that hole. Had he said this when it first happened, condemning Putin and saying what he said on the call it would be something entirely different. He can have friends conveniently record him now saying otherwise since he's not able to use the mainstream social media all he wants. Can't hide from the internet.
Obama didn’t appease Putin. I suggest you read Mike McFaul’s book. He was one of the Ambassador’s to Russia during the Obama Administration.
Ukraines military in 2014 wasn’t what it was today, and Obama knew that at the time. If Putin wanted all of Ukraine it probably would have been much easier to roll into Kyiv in 2014 than 2022. The funny thing about that one was I don’t recall hearing much about their invasion until it happened (same deal in Republic of Georgia in 2008). There was very little lead up, they just sort of happened almost as if surprise attacks. Although they were smaller scale, I’m sure our military probably saw them coming days/weeks ahead. My thought was perhaps Biden lamented the Obama Admin not putting more “on the table” in 2014. They took a very different tact here, putting out all the intel they had almost feverishly (to the point some on the right started bizarrely accusing our side of war-mongering… as the Russians built up an invasion force).
Russia hit a military base near Poland border. I wonder how many hundreds of millions of munitions were blown up in this strike At least 35 killed by Russian airstrike on base near Polish border, Ukrainian officials say (msn.com) At least 35 people were killed and 134 people injured when a Russian airstrike hit a military base in western Ukraine about 20 miles from the Polish border, Ukrainian officials said Sunday. “The airstrike was carried out from the Black and Azov seas,” Lviv regional administration head Maksym Kozytskiy, said in a Telegram post, which confirmed the number of dead an injured. He added that around 30 missiles had hit the International Center for Peacekeeping and Security in Yavoriv. ............................. The attack came after Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov suggested Saturday that Russian forces could try to destroy foreign shipments of weapons to Ukraine, branding them “legitimate targets.”
Right. The President that pulled troops out of a conflict and left our long term allies behind to be massacred was going to strike Moscow to stop a country we’re not even allies with from being invaded? You’re delusional.
Not equally, but far far worse. Where the Day After was a Sunday night Disney movie, Threads was the 'R' version.
