I will just say that the Israelis avoided hitting a hospital in the Gaza Strip despite the fact that Hamas had an HQ in the basement. So even if true about combat positions, grotesque to hit it deliberately

So this is the only link that I could find that wasn't a paywall, but *apparently* Japan is trying to take some Russian islands because that was their territory, & its been disputed for years :emoji_joy:

Japan renews island dispute with Russia

I think it’s pretty obvious that the Israeli military cares a lot more about preserving civilian life as best it can and surgically striking (even when it doesn’t live up to those ideals) than Putin ever did.

The thing I appreciated the most about Trump was his foreign policy. He's one of the few who never sent troops anywhere, only withdrew them, and against all opposition he wanted a repproachment with Russia to focus all our attention on our bigger competitor in China. The tactics needed some work (e.g. the trade war), but the overarching strategy was sound. I'd have gladly traded Ukraine for Russian cooperation in squeezing China.

if you want to read a messy history, read up on those islands.
The allies promised them to Russia in WW2 even though they were Japanese at the time. Russia didn’t even invade until after we had dropped the bombs and Japan had surrendered.
What islands actually constitute the agreement between the allies can’t even be agreed to, so Japan claims sovereignty over several of them, which Russia denies.
Russia and Japan were actually in a state of war well into the 1950’s.

so now that Russia is on its back foot, Japan figures, why not now?

Matt Gaetz needed another opportunity to embarrass himself.

While true, I think an important distinction has to be made between the Red Army defending the motherland vs an offensive engagement. Napoleon and Hitler learned about trying to defeat Russia on Russian soil....history certainly tells us that is a different ballgame

The war in Afghanistan really was the leading cause.

Well, as I tend to do, I went down a rabbit hole today.
If anyone remembers Marissa King from our first gymnastics national title team, she married a ukrainian, who is now a volunteer assistant gymnastics coach at Alabama. She started a gofundme for his family in Kiev, if anyone is interested.
Help support Oleksii's family from Ukraine, organized by Marissa King

Don't laugh, seriously. Putin is using this to justify using chemical weapons in Ukraine very soon. Once he starts hitting Ukraine with chemical and biological weapons, nukes are next. It's why Biden didn't want the Poland deal. It's a false flag, used to justify his use of these weapons.

Commies gonna commie. Good luck with that whole “zero future foreign investment” thing!

I wonder if this chills companies from doing anything “new” in China? It can’t be good for them either.
