Again wishful thinking. People are not going to do without oil and they will take it wherever they can get it from. The dependency on oil is entrenched in society across the globe.

Why mention the GDP if it didn't matter concerning the war between Russia and Ukraine. A tax write off for who? Corporate taxes are filed across the globe when it comes to international companies. This will not be a write off on US taxes much less state taxes. I'm sorry you lost your business in Russia but that doesn't constitute a business loss to be born by the American public.

As to what happens when the war is over only the future will tell. My guess is Russia will be welcomed back into the fold. Why? Business interests top government interests every time.

My guess is that completely depends on how the war ends. Any scenario where Russian troops remain in Ukrainian territory (January 2014) means that we don’t go back to business as normal.

I think if Putin is still in power then no. If a new regime takes over then they'd cautiously proceed but not close to prior levels until a proven reliability is established.

Russian strike hit a children’s hospital according to the Ukrainians.

In my opinion, it’s not enough for Putin to “not be in power.” He’s been “not in power” twice before and been the actual decision maker. Dead of a long disease is fine. Executed is fine. Imprisoned is fine. And exiled to a neutral country is fine. But I don’t think we can negotiate the end of these sanctions with Putin, by proxy or not.

Should have been more specific & said dead but by out of power I meant out of the picture & in his case yeah that means dead.

Yep, Putin should be DONE on the world stage. IF he stays in power then Russia should be done too. A pariah state until they rehabilitate themselves.

Why cause a radiation plume that can reach your population?

It takes decades to calculate the true cost of any victory, in this case some form of Russian humiliation. Such development, if they occur, are often satisfying in the short term but harder to judge when the long-term effects are understood

One of the more heart warming stories during this ordeal.

If they cannot learn to respect the territorial integrity of their neighbors and engage in atrocities then eff them and the horse they rode in on.

I'm not suggesting excessive concern for Russian leadership but for our own interest. The Germans were humiliated via the Versailles treaty. Hitler made sure that the French signed their surrender papers in the same boxcar just over 20 years later. Putin has been humiliated by the developments of the last 30 years, which brought us to this.

I don't know what that means in terms of the perfect policy. Certainly doesn't mean we need to back off now. But it is something to keep in mind, solely for self-interest.

I don't think it will matter whether Putin is in power or not but I do agree on caution.

I agree it will not be business as normal prior to invasion. But it will be business none the less. To ignore Russia regardless of who sits in power would be insane. We are not talking about a nation such as North Korea that has nothing of interest to the rest of the globe.

No worries. I figured. Part of what I do is fix voice recognition mistakes (like wrong medications etc).
