There is a balance here and it is risky. While it seems safer to just sit back and say it’s not our problem, one way or other it will eventually be our problem. While the stakes are high given Putin is deathly scared of getting Covid it would seem unlikely that he would risk getting himself destroyed by nuclear annihilation.
We're certainly at war with the ruble. It's certainly far superior to being in a physical altercation. But I agree that pretending we aren't at war with Russia, in a de facto sense, is incorrect. I hope it doesn't escalate to anything more, and frankly, I've been very impressed with the global economic war being waged on Russia.
We arent sitting back and saying its not a problem. But saying we are 'basically at war' already is not useful in any sense. That mentality has never served this country well, particularly since 9/11.
Do I know specific numbers about the ME, Asian and Africa? No Is there a threshold number to qualify as carnage? No. Are they on my television screen every night? No Have they been caused by a border crossing despot with nuclear capability? Generally, no Have they caused disruption to worldwide supply chains and commodity prices? No None of which is to say they’re not important, which I never said or Implied. And if it’s so important to you, start a thread on it. But how about you otherwise stop with creating false equivalencies to make a point that was not in contention, especially stopping just short of calling me racist (well, you pretty much did say it). What a cheap, crappy shot. Get over yourself.
You only mentioned carnage, so I was under the impression that lives is what you really cared about. It seems like you just used it as a front to cover up your deeper, truer concerns. My bad.
This does not affect Russia in the least as in August 2014, 10 McDonald's restaurants were closed in Russia due to a decision made by the public health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor. In a move widely seen as politically motivated, mass inspections of the chain began as Russia retaliated for the sanctions imposed on it by Washington over Moscow’s role in the Ukraine conflict. McDonald's, a Rare Holdout in Russia, Has Been Mum on Its Plans Unlike many restaurant peers, which franchise in Russia, the majority of McDonald’s locations in the country are owned and operated directly by the company. This means the situation for McDonald’s is more complex, as it has to consider the day-to-day business of running a restaurant. While other companies are also under pressure to withdraw from Russia, most have at least come out condemning Russia. Global marketing strategies of Mcdonald’s Corporation (with Reference to India and Russia) The end result is who ever was operating the establishment - they just got a free fast food restaurant.

For Pete's sake, my take on doing stuff yourself was in response to folks managing higher prices and their household budgets. Didn't say don't buy anything. As far as workers, start pushing community college kids in that direction. We have plenty of plant workers here for Ford, GM, etc. & others that left for other careers with box stores that could come back. Like i said elsewhere, get the "illegals" papers with a path to citizenship & put them to work. Was I even close to suggesting some kind of major upheaval? No! I was talking about SOME kind of help in picking up manufacturing. Did I say stop global trades? No. But for those of you who think I'm looking to destroy modern society (talk about a stretch), what is your grand suggestion here? Drop all sanctions and tell Putin "ok you've been a naughty boy we hope you learned your lesson"?
It said they are closing. Now yes locals could open them as whatever they wanted in theory but they wouldn’t have any of the McDonalds supply or corporate support.
This absolutely wrecked me -- Sergey Korenev was running out of time. He watched his daughter Anna, 11, practice skateboarding in a park on a rainy Thursday night outside Portland, Oregon. His midnight flight will board in a few hours that will begin a long journey to the war in Ukraine. Sergey still has to pack, but he doesn’t hurry her. Sergey, 44, has been bringing Anna here to the park for a month and each time she gets better. He watched her roll down a small hill towards him. “Come on, come on, come on …” Sergey said in Russian, smiling at the progress she’s making. Sergey’s eldest daughter Maria, 17, was standing next to him with her hoodie pulled up. She doesn’t look at her phone, even when Anna walks back up the hill and it turn quiet between her and her father. Sergey’s mother is alone in her home outside Kyiv, hiding from shelling. Sergey wants to go home to rescue her, take her to Poland and then stay and fight. -- Link here --> ‘I can help them’: one man’s journey from Portland to Ukraine’s frontlines
The above story is even better in its twitter thread form. WOWZA (click that tweet and then follow the thread)
McDonald's as an international company creates their menu based on cultural cuisine. It's not hard to continue down that vein. Global marketing strategies of Mcdonald’s Corporation (with Reference to India and Russia) Strategy in Russia McDonald’s Russia have included potato wedges, cabbage pie and cherry pie. In the year 2005, McDonald’s initiated breakfast menu and stronger coffee at different locations in Moscow that enabled commuters who left early for work, to avoid traffic and eating out. The pricing of the beverages have been kept within the Russian budget and their competitors Starbucks. This includes cabbage pies, potato wedges and cherry pie. The Pushkin Square McDonald’s as well as the Arbat are two of the locations where the McCafe was introduced. The Pushkin Square McCafe serves an average of 600 transactions per day and it is seen that 6 out of 10 people prefer to have beverages at McCafe than other restaurants. Supply chain management in Russia Suppliers - When McDonald’s first opened in Russia, a majority of the raw materials used were not grown in Russia whereas as of now over 75% of raw ingredients needed for McDonald’s are supplied by over 130 independent Russian suppliers. Many agricultural experts are of the view that McDonald’s had changed the way Russians ate and now the “Corporation” is also deciding what should be grown in the country. Who needs corporate support when the majority of the necessities come from within the country. Everything has been set up in a self sustaining environment.
This is also a first world power with nukes and cutting edge munitions that is employing tactics that were obsolete 20 years ago.
