At 3 p.m ET Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, and the UNICEF’S Executive Director, Catherine Russell will brief the Security Council on the situation in Ukraine." Wonder if this will lead to UN peacekeepers being sent to establish safe corridors?
On the surface cutting off Russian oil sounds great but all it will do is give the Chinese the same oil at half price or less….because nobody else will buy it. That’s gives the Chinese immense leverage to negotiate a better price. And we end up with paying a major premium.
Agree but they have ability to negotiate with Chinese. We would still be paying a huge premium. This is a supply side issue. Flood the market with any and all crude available.
Retired military officer coordinating logistics said on CNN that the rocket launchers were in short supply and that was being fixed to allow more use of the rockets, both armor and SAMs, which were not in short supply but couldn't be deployed without the launchers
From CNN live: "US House and Senate lawmakers have a deal on outline of bill to punish Russia In a significant statement, four top lawmakers — the leaders of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee — said they would craft a bill that would suspend normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus and provide the White House with authority to increase tariffs on the two countries. .... It's kind of wild that, at its most basic, this has evolved into essentially the over-sized Bully picking on a quiet kid at recess and the rest of the world basically going -- "Okay, even though it's not fair that this big ass kid who's older than everybody because he's been held back two grades has decided he wants to curb stomp the little nerdy guy minding his business in the corner, you two can fight it out and we'll sit on the side and observe so long as the bully doesn't bring brass knuckles or a knife to the fight." And because somehow the nerdy kid is holding his own and taking the bully's best shots and actually whoopin' his ass a bit, the world is like... "Yeah, you guys can just continue to fight and we won't jump in to break it up?" I mean... it's kinda WILD that this is happening. But bless the Ukrainians for being a country of seriously bad ass people
I read Germany sent approx. 1700 Strela-2 MANPADS. Of the 1700 sent from acquired post unification East German stocks I believe over 700 were condemned.
Pretty much. Just wish the Polish would hurry the heck up & give the Ukranians planes already. It's not like they don't have way better, more powerful modern stuff at their border with US aircraft. I get it's a logistics thing because if they take off from Poland it could be seen as Poland attacking. But wouldn't a flag change/call sign change and assignment to Ukranian pilots/Independent pilots take care of that? That or find a runway, highway, heck field to fly in & land so the Ukranians can then fly them.
Well if nothing else they can be used for parts...you'd think they'd send stuff that works though *facepalm*
Look at the bright side, that is 1000 that did work. I surprised more didn't fail, you are talking about 30 yr old plus weaponry. Hopefully they can take the ones not working and turn them into IEDs.
From CNN live: "US and allies call on Interpol to suspend Russia's access to the global police agency's systems From CNN's Jessica Schneider and Priscilla Alvarez US Attorney General Merrick Garland has joined justice ministers from several allied countries to demand that Interpol immediately suspend Russia from accessing its systems, according to Justice Department spokesperson Anthony Coley. Coley tweeted Sunday night that Garland, alongside other justice ministers from what’s known as the Five Country Ministerial — the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, called on Interpol and its executive committee “to decide this week on the immediate suspension of Russia's access to its systems.” British Home Secretary Priti Patel also tweeted Sunday night, saying, “Russia’s actions are a direct threat to the safety of individuals and to international law enforcement cooperation.”" Also says Russia is one of a handful of countries that tend to abuse Interpol to go after dissidents, etc, and just list it as "financial crimes" to get who they want.
Gotta get rid of that 1960s tech they acquired some how. A write off for more modern stuff is my guess.
Like I said at least the ones that don't work can be cannibalized to fix the ones that do. Spare parts for those may not be the easiest to ger.
Depends what model of SA-7 they used. The original missiles had small warheads and could only engage targets from the rear. The improved SA-7B could engage targets from more angles and with a larger warhead. The missiles that were sent had missing grip assembly for launching the missile. Germany thinks Ukrainian force have these grip assemblies.
Putin is starting to realize that taking over Ukraine is going to be a lot tougher than it was to take over the Retrumplican Party.
