Why would what Europe or the U.S. wanted matter? Isn’t this a war between Ukraine and Russia?

 

Is this not a deal that President Trump is going to put together to end the war? I was just under the impression you thought higher of his negotiating skills. It sounds like you think all he is capable of is bending over and letting Russia have its way.

Degenerative logic: If Ukraine joins NATO Putin will back down because he doesn’t want to fight NATO directly. On the other hand, if Ukraine is not allowed to join NATO Putin will seize all of Ukraine and then attack NATO.

Kind of creates a conundrum for Trump considering that he has proclaimed Iran as the enemy of the US while the Islamic Republican is a friend of Vladimir Putin.

 

Because they are the ones that have been funding this war on the Ukrainian side. Ukraine knows that they need their allies on board for an deal with hope for a lasting peace.

 

Well, surely you don't believe that, do you? After all, you've been telling us this whole time Russia's design is to take all of Ukraine, so this would be a major victory if this halts Moscow at the current front lines, would it not? Because you have also stated that Ukraine cannot win this war over the long haul, so there has to be some value in the security that Russia will not transgress further, I would have to think. Tell me what specifically about my predicted outcome that you think will turn out differently in real life? Let me evaluate how realistic that is, now that I've put my prediction out for all to see. (with the understanding we both reserve the right to be wrong)

 

Do you really think Russia feels an obligation in negotiations to make the U.S. and Europe happy, just because they decided to enter the war on the opposing side, despite having no discernible direct security threat upon their own sovereignty? Your problem here is that Biden stated up front no American boots, so Russia has had and still does have the upper hand in negotiations. Military aid has, at best, allowed the Ukrainians to maintain the status quo for the past two years. It has not made a dent in the Russians hold on the contested territory. Even if Trump continued the same type of aid packages to Ukraine, Russia knows it moves the needle nowhere. The only way the west would gain the upper hand in negotiations is to directly intervene and that ain't happening, especially now.

So, you're going to have to accept some concessions as reality. Even if I didn't want them, they're coming, so might as well prepare for it now. And don't blame Trump. He didn't get us into this mess to begin with. He's attempting to make the best of a very horrible situation. Trump understands when an opposing faction is operating from a position of strength versus one that is on level playing ground or one that has the weak hand. We can thump our chests with all the military bravado all day long, but the U.S. policy has been and will continue to be no direct intervention, so it's pointless to keep on dreaming about it.

 

The AFU has been holding the status quo for the last two years with our hand me downs. Biden has always been overly worried about introducing weapons that could make a real difference. It took 2 years to get 20 year old ATACMS in and they have made a difference. Imagine if some of our more state of the art capabilities were donated.

Concessions will need to be made on both sides. Neither side will be happy with the deal bit they will both need to live with it.

 

On the surface, it is. Underneath, it is a war between imperialism and modern civilization. A war between a dangerous rogue nation and a system of international rules and order. You would have to be stupid to think that this war does not affect the U.S. and our interests. A big part of the success of the U.S. is based on free trade with many nations. I know you don't mind watching people in Africa and the middle east die of starvation while Russia withholds crops from it's Ukrainian district, but many of those people will mind. And a few of those people may become terrorists looking for a successful nation to attack. Maybe you can enlighten us as to why more frequent 9-11's would be positive for the U.S.? Or are you denying that this could happen? Also, getting $12 trillion in minerals from Ukraine will only accelerate the recovery and re-arming of Russia's military. Why would you believe this to be a good thing? You really need to understand that things do not happen in a vacuum--there are consequences for foolish mistakes, just like the 405,000 Americans who died in WWII because isolationists refused to allow the U.S. to get involved in the early part of the war, when Hitler could have easily been defeated with minimal loss of life.

 

Are you really dumb enough to think that Putin will honor a ceasefire with the rest of Ukraine for eternity? Are you gullible enough to think that he won't re-build his military and come up with another pathetic excuse to invade again when the timing is right? Does he strike you as an honorable mass murdering imperialist who would keep his word? Is that the kind of person you like to trust? Are you still clinging to the asinine suggestion that Putin is fighting Nazis in Ukraine, led by a short Jewish guy?

But what is FACT, is that we are spending ourselves into ruin NOW--as the former Soviet Union spent itself into dissolution 30+ years ago.

Ukraine is admittedly a small part of that equation, since our spending problem is a problem of Trillions, while our spending on Ukraine is approx 200 Billion and counting.

But it is also, a low priority for us-not the drama queen sized threat you blow *very scary* (lol!) Russia up to be.

Our national debt, collapse of the dollar, and related consequences represent FAAAARRRR greater threat than Russia's rust bucket war machine, half a world away.
