You correctly assess that there is no value in actually using the weapons. The strategic consequences would far outweigh whatever short-lived tactical benefit thet might gain. The value is in deterring Ukraine (and the West) from doing something Russia doesn’t like by making them think Russia might use nuclear weapons. And I have to say, their threats (which are obviously empty to me) seem to work on a lot of people.

One option that a Hiter-esque monster like Putin might consider would be to kill (or exterminate) every Ukrainian--man, woman, and child--and repopulate the country with Russians. Putin is not especially interested in having Ukraine's people (especially if they do not fear and worship him, and do not agree to work as slave labor), he wants Ukraine's land and natural resources.

Yeah, but even if his ultimate aim is to depopulate and repopulate, as it did with East Prussia (what the Russians call Kaliningrad), then you still have to question his strategy of destroying so much of what would make Ukraine valuable to these new Russian colonists. The farmland, mines, infrastructure, etc. And Russia is going to be in no position to foot the rebuilding bill. Apart from extracting himself from this mess he created with as much face as he can save, I have no idea what Putin has in mind. It certainly is far short of the objectives he started with.

Trump understands the art of the deal. You don't undercut your role as chief negotiator by publicly siding with one party over the other before the negotiations have even begun. That is the approach Biden has taken and look where it has us. Hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars wasted. Close to one million dead bodies. Further from pushing Russia out of Ukraine than we ever been since the start of the war. Yeah... that sick bastard Trump. He might actually get something done. It is telling that Zelenskyy is having more in person meetings about negotiations with the leading opposition candidate than he is with the actual POTUS himself.

those ne drones they have are doing some real damage, and their intel seems to be good. another day, another pile of missiles destroyed

Massive fire in Russia's Rostov region uncontrollable after drone attack (msn.com)

    Night explosions in Russia

Explosions rocked several regions of Russia overnight. In the Krasnodar region of Russia, explosions were heard and a fire broke out near the Yeysk military airfield. Local media write that Kinzhal missiles could have been stored there.

Explosions were also heard in the Tambov, Oryol, Lipetsk, Tula, Voronezh, and Saratov regions.

Another arsenal with Russian army weapons was probably attacked in the Volgograd region. According to the head of the National Security and Defense Council's Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, Iranian ballistic missiles were stored there.

another 133k pieces of meat to the front to be sacrificed for a needless war. Russian mothers past tired of this...

Desperate Putin facing huge revolt as he orders 133,000 Russians to the frontline (msn.com)

Vladimir Putin has ordered the conscription of an additional 133,000 young Russian men to the frontline in a move that could spark a huge revolt from furious parents in the country.
The new recruits, aged between 18 and 30, will be drafted starting tomorrow through to the end of December.

Parents are voicing growing concerns that these untrained and inexperienced conscripts could be sent directly to volatile border regions near the war zone as the conflict with Ukraine rages.

This latest draft exceeds last year's conscription numbers, when 130,000 were called up. Earlier this year, the spring draft saw another 150,000 men added to the ranks for their mandatory one-year military service.

The Kremlin is facing increasing backlash over its use of conscripts near the frontlines, despite earlier assurances from Putin to concerned parents that recruits would not be exposed to direct danger.

And yet - and in all their "infinite wisdom" - MAGA morons attack the milquetoast left from the left. . . when the opening was always from the right. Again, dumbest constituency in the history of electoral politics.

Nailed it! It's all about his ego and saving face at this point. Every possible strategic gain was lost in the first two-weeks of the war.

Well, smart guy, that's exactly what he's doing and what attacking Biden from the Chomsky left has accomplished. What can you say? Retards gonna retard!

If I was Ukraine, right about now, I would be sending over drones into urban Russia areas and be dropping leaflets explaining that Ukraine is not at war with the Russian people but with Putin and his army.

Due to the shared heritage, I could see winning over the hearts and minds as working well in this war.

I think most Russians know that by now. The younger generations have had some access to the internet, and the older generations most likely hear some things from the younger generations. Russians have also been through this drill many times before (they are actually pretty good at losing wars that they get themselves into, unless it is a much smaller military), although it's been a while since Russia stepped into a quagmire that lasted this long. They know why Putin started this war. The humane way that Ukraine's troops treated the people of Kursk has also probably gotten back (through the grapevine) to the average Russian, at least in large cities in their western part of the country.
