I'm sure the conscripts were told that there was no chance of combat on border patrol duty. Russia should have just put out mannequins dressed up as soldiers--it would have been just as effective. Or those shooting gallery figures that spin around and walk in the other direction when they get hit.
Kyiv May Have Hit Intelligence 'Gold Mine' With Kursk Train Station Capture (msn.com) Ukraine may be able to glean key intelligence on Russia's logistics after Kyiv's troops swept over the border into the Kursk town of Sudzha last week, according to open-source intelligence accounts tracking the incursion. The Sudzha railway station, part of a larger network linking Kursk to other locations in Russia, could be a "gold mine" for Kyiv in deciphering Moscow's logistics chains through schedules and internal communications, one account posted to X. Several other accounts similarly argued that Ukraine could secure access to Russian rail computer systems based at the railway station.
Ukraine used the distraction of the Kursk fighting to attack four Russian air bases in the area, blowing up fuel and ammo supplies. Ukraine says it hit four Russian air bases in major drone attack
A Russian lawmaker gets in line for his own balcony in Moscow, by telling the truth about the Russian military. He claims that the Russian military knew about the Kursk invasion a month ahead of time, but everyone was told not to panic because "those above knew better". In other words, top generals didn't believe it. This creates a dilemma for Putin: who to execute first, the lawmaker or the generals? A Russian lawmaker says the military knew Ukraine was planning to hit Kursk, but everyone was told 'not to panic' because 'those above know better'
Ukraine has shot down another Su-34 Fullback bomber, this time over Russia. The $36 million Su-34 is considered Russia's most effective fighter bomber. Ukraine said it shot down a $36 million Su-34 bomber jet inside Russia
Desperation and hopelessness sinks in at the Kremlin. Putin appoints a former bodyguard (currently a presidential aide) to be in charge of the Russian response to Ukraine's invasion. Apparently, Putin's generals are not up to the task. This has disaster written all over it. The guy getting your coffee yesterday is defending your country against a foreign invasion today. What could go wrong? Putin appointed his former bodyguard to take over Russia's military response to the Kursk invasion, local lawmaker says
Meanwhile, Russians barreling full bore towards Pokrovsk. Seemingly unworried about happening in the Kursk region. Pokrovsk would be a huge strategical breakdown if Ukraine loses it.
It’s pretty obvious from everything I’ve read that Russia is redirecting troops just not from the salient headed for pokrovsk. That is the one he’s doubling down on. That being said, barreling is a bit of an exaggeration. They’re more like a glacier. Slow moving but seemingly inevitable.
Once again, like Kharkiv and Odesa before it, you can’t just threaten to take Pokrovsk and expect everyone to act like as you have already taken it. You have to actually capture the city the city this time. And, uh, no reason to “feint” what with Ukraine inside Russia. Putin needs a real victory this time, not another masterful “feint.”
I agree Russia needs a real victory, but they are indeed gathering a lot of steam on that front. Pokrovsk is more consequential than Adviivka and Bakhmut. Russia did indeed prevail in those two cities. Much of the supply line for the UAF run through Pokrovsk. By taking it, Russia will have almost sliced through Ukraine’s last line of defense in the East. It could lead to a severe breakdown.
And I’ll be very impressed if it does. Until that day, though, consider me underwhelmed with Russia in all aspects of this war. Can’t think of one reason presently why we shouldn’t be cranking up support of Ukraine and expediting this strategic defeat of Russia.

I don't know if a small hydrogen tank on a car is capable of providing any better detonation & blast effect than if they filled the fuel tank with high explosives. Having it remote drive to the target was probably the greater technical feat, especially across a partially destroyed bridge. What really made the blast effective was driving the car into an ammunition storage facility.
He won't retreat until Ukraine is on the outskirts of Moscow. He may be shot if that happens, however.
And I am sure you thought withdrawing our troops from Syria was a catastrophic mistake. And yet the Kurds secured help from none other than Assad himself to fend off attacks from a NATO country. It doesn’t all go the way you are told…
