Georgia is applying for EU membership. So Ukraine is applying to the EU, Sweden and Finland are considering NATO, Germany is upping their military budget, the UN just condemned them, their economy is in ruins, Putin's Oligarch allies are being about as public as they dare in criticizing him, China has basically bailed (at least publicly), they are losing troops and equipment at a much higher rate than expected, and even if he wins there all the other stuff still stands. Hard to see how all of this could have backfired on Putin any worse.
Two of the most watched TV hosts and a certain former President thought this invasion was either “why should we care” or “Putin is so genius, our leaders are idiots”. They were saying this even after it started initially. Some of them of course flip flopped, but the damage was done. The most shocking thing we have seen domestically pertaining this invasion, was probably that far right group literally cheering the invasion chanting Putin! Putin! Would love to be able to call that an irrelevant fringe group… except… members of Congress were there! Same ones that interrupted Biden’s SOTU btw. These people have gone beyond partisan lines. Beyond left vs. right, even calling them enemies of America or traitors is an understatement. They are enemies of humanity. Sending them to Gitmo would be too kind.
From the BBC live updates. This actually almost sounds promising. Russian officials say they expect Ukrainian negotiators to arrive on the Polish-Belarusian border for the next round of peace talks on Thursday morning, where a ceasefire is set to be discussed. Moscow's chief negotiator, Vladimir Medinsky, told Russian media the Ukrainian delegation has left the capital city of Kyiv and that Russian troops are providing a security corridor for the delegates. Russia's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier on Wednesday that Moscow remains committed to the "demilitarisation" of Ukraine and added there should be a list of specified weapons that can never be deployed on Ukrainian territory. But he said that Vladimir Putin's regime recognised the Ukrainian people's right to chose their own leader and that Russia accepts Volodymyr Zelensky as the legitimate president.
Really every country that borders Russia needs to take a hard look at NATO. If Putin can make up some bogus reason for attacking Ukraine, he can do the same to other non-NATO countries that border Russia. I think how the world handles Ukraine will determine what Putin does after he takes control of Ukraine. My guess is he will stop for the moment and wait for sanctions to be removed before looking at the next nation. I don't think he's going to after another country off the bat because then the world will jump in. But what is concerning is his comments about seeing the greatest catastrophe these nations have ever seen. Will he resort to nukes down the road? He did say a world without Russia is a world that doesn't need to exist. We used to think the only enemy that had nukes that would end life are Muslim nations, but I'm starting to think Putin will be equally as bad, if not worse. Simply, Russia has more nukes than any nation on Earth.
yeah I’m not holding my breath, that’s why I used the word “almost”. At a minimum though it’s a language change which indicates they are finally starting to realize the position they are in. That’s a good thing.
Yeah, it’s dumb and disingenuous on any level. But they are whining about the fringe parties that dot a lot of Europe. It’s stuff like this they exploit: Hundreds of Ukrainian nationalists march in honor of Nazi collaborator
Comments on why people think Russia invaded is not supporting the invasion. Show me a comment from someone that post here that says,,, “ I support the Russian invasion of Ukraine”. If you can I’ll go after them also. And no, I don’t go on every thread and comment about them, liberal or conservative. I felt the need to comment on this thread because I take the invasion seriously and care deeply about what’s happening to people of Ukraine. This is serious and can lead to a lot of bad stuff, even nuclear war. The stuff Dad and some others post about is chump change and not worth my time to read and comment on. This is serious stuff wether you can get jiggy with it or not.
Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss has been offered the opportunity to buy them I read. Billionaires will be lining up to buy one of the most prestigious sports teams in the world
That's a big amount of money. Though I did see Roman said he'd write off the debts, which were 1.5 billion alone. I'm sure there are billionaires that can afford to buy, but not the kind that have the resources Abramovich did to spend freely.
