It would take a shockingly stupid president (like a Donald Trump) to not learn the lessons from Afghanistan and fail to rebuild Ukraine. Besides, the first money that would be spent would not be American or European money--it would be seized Russian money.

You must think that living in another country as a war refugee is fairly glamorous. I'm certain that it's not--tents, nothing to do but sit around, etc. And less than a fifth of Ukraine could be described as devastated. Plenty of real estate available, empty housing, etc. The underpinnings of Ukraine's economy will still be there--great farmland, $12 trillion in minerals, etc.

For someone who complains incessantly about federal spending, it's rather cavalier for you to refer to the primary reason we spend $800 billion a year on national defense as an "inconvenience we've negotiated with ease". If dealing with Russia is so easy, why do we spend $800 billion a year?

It's not a rainbow wet dream--this ACTUALLY HAPPENED after Russia was defeated in Afghanistan. Russia's economy collapsed, and we had to help rebuild it. Are you denying these facts? Our only mistake after the Afghans won the war was not helping to rebuild their country. For a tiny amount of money (compared to what we later spent on post-9-11 security and the military invasion), we could have kept Afghanistan out of Taliban hands.

this is the best way to stop drones. Wonder if western special ops teams are helping train these guys and maybe even equip them with transportation or if these guys are working their in on the ground at risk of being found. I guess if you have the right real time intel or patrols can be bribed, the risk goes down significantly.

Ukrainian army reveals details of destruction of Shahed warehouse and enemy infrastructure in Kuban (msn.com)

During a nighttime strike on June 21 by Ukrainian Defense Forces on enemy targets in Russia's Krasnodar region, a storage site for Shahed kamikaze drones and accompanying infrastructure were destroyed, according to the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"The destruction of a Shahed drone storage site and associated infrastructure by the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine, has been confirmed," the military statement reads.

The Naval Forces report that new satellite images confirm the destruction of storage and preparation sites for the Shahed-136/Geranium-2 drones, training buildings, command and communication points for these UAV crews located in the Krasnodar region.

It is noted that in addition to the strike capabilities, qualified instructors who were training personnel to launch the Shaheds, as well as cadets being trained to carry out attacks on Ukrainian territory using these kamikaze drones, were also eliminated.

Russia has decided to follow the Hamas pattern and hide their soldiers in amongst the civilians. Hopefully the Ukrainian civilians aren't very hospitable

Explosions damage Russian military base and equipment in occupied Mariupol (msn.com)

The blasts affected a training ground near the village of Staryi Krym and another base close to the military commissariat in Nikolske, according to preliminary reports from the city council.

The Ukrainian partisan movement Atesh, which monitors Russian forces in the region, noted on June 5 that Russian troops in Mariupol appeared to be in disarray, frequently changing their positions and relocating air defense systems toward Crimea.

An Atesh spokesperson revealed that Russian forces received orders to move into residential areas to better protect their equipment and personnel from further attacks.

To add Ukrainian insult to Russian injury, it was Ukraine's navy that did it.

You're not aware of what happened in Afghanistan? Your knowledge of history stops at the Weimar Republic and re-starts with Trump getting elected president? Are you that ignorant?

You are engaging a troll that uses random trolls as sources. He literally combs the internet for the most obscure and biased sources to fit his naive world view. And he does it just for attention.

You should probably just engage the adults on this thread.

It's possible that the Russian would have been abused or killed if he interrupted his march to an objective to bring back a wounded soldier.

I know, but sadly, ignorant people are frequently influenced by such shallow propaganda. And ignorant people do know how to vote. I figure I might be providing a service to society by challenging the lies and half-truths, so that the ignorant do not see such things unchallenged and believe them automatically.

I admire your optimism but that dude is long gone. And really, you can tell from his posts he is just needing attention.

I do enjoy your posts though.

The Weimar republic is relevant for a number or reasons, beginning with being the impetus of the precursor to the tradition you refer to, to wit: the Marshall Plan. Leaving Germany in such harsh situation in wake of WWI was largely credited with fostering the conditions under which the 3rd Reich took hold and flourished. Hence in the wake of WW II, the US sought to avoid similar conditions, to avoid similar results (which might also have driven west Euros to commie Soviet Union) by facilitating Europe's rebuild, and doing similar with Japan. The success with that approach served as the template since.

And so it was attempted in the wake of the collapse of the Soviet Union as you alluded to, and with Iraq, and...with Afghanistan, as recently as 2008. Russia, Iraq, and Afghanistan are all still our enemies. In fact, you may recall our tail 'tween our legs disastrous exit from Afghanistan, leading up to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

So what about our past interactions with Afghanistan are you invoking vis a vis Ukraine?

Could you possibly be referring to the 80's, when we used Afghanistan as our proxy vs USSR (as with Ukraine today vs Russia), and in the process, created one of our worst enemies ever in Osama Bin Laden?

Please do lay out your case, rather than making drunkenly vague references to historical events that suggest nothing of the sort for which you invoke them.

    Thank you in advance.

Duggers dad adds a fresh perspective against which to juxtapose the largely repetitive stuff that dominates this thread, not to mention his contributions outside of this thread.

How about posting on topic rather than continuing your ad hominem bitching about his posting. A few of us--and there aren't many of us frequenting this thread--appreciate his contributions.
