^ Of late I’ve read that China may have as many as 1,000 nukes. Not certain as to whether all deployable or not. If the latter it has greatly narrowed the gap.

 

If their backs are against the wall, I wouldn't put it past Russia to use a tactical nuke in east Ukraine. I don't think people understand how vested the Russians are in Ukraine. Before the war, the two countries regarded one another as brothers and sisters. It's a hornets nest - what we're getting into over there.

On the evening of May 30, the Ukrainian Armed Forces conducted a successful operation targeting the Russian ferry connection in the occupied region of Crimea, as reported by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The operation involved the use of ATACMS ballistic missiles to strike the Kerch ferry crossing, a critical point used by the enemy to sustain its military presence in the area.

The strategic implications of this strike are manifold. Primarily, the operation dealt a significant blow to the logistical operations of Russian forces in Crimea. The railway and automobile ferries were the sole services of their type operating at the Kerch ferry crossing. In addition to them, the occupied peninsula is connected to the Russian mainland by five more ferries: two small automobile ferries named “Kerchensky-2” and “Yeisk,” and three large automobile ferries named “Lavrentiy,” “Panagia,” and “Maria.” The strike comes as a clear message from the Ukrainian forces, as the General Staff emphasized, “The enemy must remember: Crimea is Ukraine.” This sentiment was further echoed by satellite imagery provided by the General Staff of the AFU, which depicted the aftermath of the hit ferry.

What I wonder is having seen the quality of Russian weapons how many of those nukes actually exist and how many can be launched? My guess is they have to be 50 years old and although they weren’t made by Boeing I question the quality.

 

I’m puzzled as to how anyone could have followed the war, for 2+ years, and surmised that Russian weapons are inferior to the West’s.

Include all of the western tanks, and that drops to maybe 100:1 at the worst. Russia's latest tank? Dropped out from the action due to inability to compete. Armored personnel carriers and IFV's? Yeah. much better for the west. Same for Patriot missile systems. All 40-year-old technology, and kicking Russia's azz. Well, threats have worked so well to this point, so why mess with success?

 

You mean, other than every single western media outlet? These stories are based on information from Ukraine, but Ukraine does a far better job of documenting kills of equipment with video than Russian sources do. (At one point, Russian bloggers tried posting multiple pictures of the same destroyed equipment from different angles to claim multiple kills for each piece of equipment.) Your sources are shadowy individuals posting social media fairy tales straight from the Kremlin, Lee Harvey.

 

This is precisely the matter. Russian weapons lack the sophisticated targeting technology the U.S. has, as evidenced by the repeated failures of their “precision-guided” munitions to hit their intended targets in Ukraine. Further, their dud rate is supposed to be significantly higher than their counterparts based on the results of testing. They need more weapons to be sure of the same effect, especially considering the numbers assumed necessary to take out our command and control facilities deep underground, such as NORAD. In short, the U.S. can reasonably assume that each of its weapons would hit its target and detonate with intended effect, and the Russians know it. The Russians also know they can’t make the same assumptions about their own weapons and have to cover the gap with mass. But this is all academic. Russia doesn’t want to find out what would actually happen any more than we do. As I said, Medvedev’s dumbass is bluffing again, just like with every other empty threat that has come out of his stupid mouth.
