I wouldn't want to be charged with enforcing 25% capacity at the fallout shelters.

Looking at flight trackers, interesting collection of military planes over the central US today:

E4-B - the airborne strategic command “doomsday plane”

Two E6-Bs - the Navy version of the E4-B that does airborne command and control for the SSBN fleet

RC-135S Cobra Ball - ballistic missile tracking and monitoring reconnaissance plane

Two RC-135W Rivet Joints - airborne signal intelligence reconnaissance plane

Also give kudos to the Ukranian patriots for proudly defending the sanctity of their Capitol building, a foreign concept to some in America.

i suggest you read Ambassador McFaul's book and Bill Browder's Book Red Notice if you want to understand Russia in 2013 and forward. Deal with reality, not academic theory. Remember, Obama tried to re-set with Russia.

It's a self fulfilling prophecy, keep treating someone as an adversary and he'll become an adversary even if he isn't now. That goes for both Russia and the NATO. If NATO hadn't expanded eastward then Russia would've attempted to expand its influence westward as you pointed out.

This adversarial situation is unavoidable, but what can be avoided is war. The trick in avoiding war is to find your opponent's red line, and advance to that line and no further. Expanding into Ukraine was crossing a red line, that much is clear now. Whether it was a red line worth challenging is up for debate. We wanted to challenge it, much of Western Europe, particularly Germany, did not.

Both Russia and Western Europe will come out of this conflict weaker. What actually ends up happening in Ukraine actually doesn't matter much to us. How it will affect the real superpower competition occurring between the US and China is of more import for us.

After a Fumbled Start, Russian Forces Hit Harder in Ukraine

Next step for Russia, start bombing civilians, residential Areas and population centers.

Russian military doctrine toward taking cities is both grimly practical and deadly, favoring heavy artillery, missiles and bombs to terrify civilians and push them to flee, while killing defenders and destroying local infrastructure and communications before advancing on the ground.

    Top of the ridge
There a bunch on both sides of the aisle in this thread that disgust me.
A nation is under attack. People are dying defending their homes. A mad man is running one of the world powers. I have friends stuck in Ukraine tonight. They do not how they will get out. They do not know what tomorrow will bring . They truly fear.
And some of you f&$@“)$& jackasses can do nothing more than take cheap pot shots at the other side of the aisle and try to score political points in Your own empty head. Grow up. Have some dignity and consideration as we watch the truly innocent suffer.
I’m done. I’ll check back in later after I’ve cooled off.
Some of y’all are disgusting children.

Sir, the open venting your grievances is adding little to this conversation.

Oh give me a break. The red line was Ukraine existing as an independent state free of Russian domination. And UA crossed it when they ousted Putin’s puppet government in a Democratic election.

That’s all there is to it.

That's because you'll see the world as it really is, not as CNN, Twitter, and YouTube want you to.
