There is a reason Russia recognized the sovereignty of the breakaway republics and invoked 'peace keeping' rather than rolling in tanks without pretext. Calling it an invasion doesn't help anything at this point. Not that it matters what any of us say on the internet, but officially calling it that isn't something we ought to do at this point for good reason. Still gives Putin an out.

None of the USs business is correct. People that never experienced war, tend to want it the most.

President Biden and his admin played this well - we can’t really send in troops, but so far, doing a good job with what we can.
kept the world’s focus on Russia in the anticipation of their attack and now we have more moral authority. Also effectively coalesced NATO members on the same page.

I really like this approach - if it could be done!

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., called to "destroy the ruble and crush the Russian oil and gas sector" in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggression in Ukraine.

Well, the President hasn’t done whatever he’s going to do yet, so anyone saying that at this point just wants wants to criticize him no matter what. Surely, though, there is a minimal level of response you are expecting, and you would consider anything less than that “weak.” Speaking for self, I’m withholding judgment for now, but if all we can expect here is some scolding and token sanctions, then, yes — spoiler alert! — I will find that frighteningly weak. And I will predict that Russia and China will only get more aggressive when they come for their next prizes.

As bat guano as this headline is, even more insane is that Trump actively suggests that it would be “smart” for the United States, presumably from the mouth of a President, to declare portions of Mexico independent and send the US military to invade and annex portions of Mexico under the auspices of being “peacekeepers.”

From his own mouth: “Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine. Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful. So, Putin is now saying, ‘It’s independent,’ a large section of Ukraine. I said, ‘How smart is that?’ And he’s gonna go in and be a peacekeeper. That’s strongest peace force … We could use that on our southern border.

Absolutely unhinged lunacy, Putin propaganda, and a clear violation of international law. But just another day for wanna-be autocrat Donald J. Trump.

Part of it is classic presentism. 10-15 yrs ago it was all about our GWOT. Why our gov cancelled the F22 - no potential foe was close to us at the time. We were funding 5th gen jet fighters when our enemy then “couldn’t wear a common uniform”. But, a decade later and many many terabytes of stolen highly classified data - we regret mothballing the f22 production line.

    cnn gives mitt credit…..

It's time to admit it: Mitt Romney was right about Russia - CNNPolitics

When the reset died, and it died quickly, we knew. That was a long time ago.
