I am by no means alone among Americans who are tired of the way our government throws its weight around in the world. Indeed, there are a handful of us on this thread. GWB was an amateur, and a very arrogant and ignorant president. He peaked during the speech at the WTC ruins, and it was all downhill from there. He should have listened more to his generals, and less to the political hack he appointed Sec'y of Defense (same mistake LBJ made with listening to McNamara).

Based on your logic, the U.S. would be correct to respond to the drug smuggling and illegal immigrant problem from Mexico by invading Mexico, killing hundreds of thousands of people, and installing a puppet government that did what we said, when we said to do it. I do not agree with that. I think we should respect Mexico's sovereignty, and work with them to resolve these problems, using economic pressure if necessary.

The way that Biden has chosen to handle the Russian invasion of Ukraine has been the correct one. Russia wants to invade a neighboring country for no valid reason other than conquest and treasure, then we have a right, if not an obligation, to provide military equipment and support to Ukraine. Russia is lucky that we don't do what they did during the Korean War--they put a North Korean flag on Russian fighter jets and had Russian pilots in them killing American pilots.

You still haven't acknowledged the reason Putin went into Ukraine. It was because Zelensky was preparing to invade Utje Donbas. in March, 2022. Zelensky admitted this. Thousands of ethnic Russians would have been slaughtered. Additionally the US wanted to eventually have nuclear missiles in Ukraine that could hit Moscow in less than 5 minutes.

If you think free trade and global security depend on Russia not taking Ukraine you're mistaken.

If the U.S. ignores Russia's invasion of a neighbor, he will invade again. He will also rebuild his military. We will have to respond by increasing our investment in our military. That is what happens when a Cold War is started. I do not want another Cold War, but realize it will be necessary if Russia wins, and intelligent people need to be aware of this.

Winning a war against a dangerous superpower without firing a shot IS a great way to reduce inflation over the next decade. It was certainly proven during the 1990's, when Russia was defeated, in fact. We saved $2.55 trillion dollars (in 2023 dollars) in defense spending in the 1990's by supporting Afghanistan against the Soviets.

Putin wanted to become a member of NATO in 2000, when Putin was first put in charge, but he wanted to be assigned membership to NATO and not go through the usual application process. You know, because of the whole "NATO exists to defend Europe from a dangerous Russia" idea. Maybe Putin wanted to be able to veto any military action against Russia if he should decide to invade his neighbors. Maybe Putin desperately wanted Russia to be respected like NATO countries are, but needed to fast-track the process, and skip as many steps as possible, instead of earning respect the hard way, like everyone else did.

At any rate, it is apparent that Putin was not serious. Because what followed was a demonstration of why NATO should be nervous of having Russia near their countries: a series of conflicts with almost all of Russia's neighbors to the west.

Basically, NATO gave Russia multiple forums to handle disputes, and Russia responded with violence to resolve their disputes, demonstrating their status as barbarians.
