Even though they are fighting a war of attrition, unlike Ukraine which is fighting for PR victories, it has gained more territory this year than has Ukraine … Russia Has Gained More Territory This Year Than Ukraine - News From Antiwar.com
oopsies..SAM around Tokmat got trigger happy and took out a russian SU 35 Russian Su-35 Fighter Jet Downed by Own Air Defense, Video Appears to Show (msn.com) Russian air defenses close to the frontlines in Ukraine's southern Zaporizhzhia region have shot down one of Moscow's own advanced fighter jets, footage circulating online appears to show. Russian air defense systems took out a Russian Su-35 multirole fighter jet around the occupied Ukrainian city of Tokmak, Russian and Ukrainian military bloggers as well as open-source intelligence accounts reported on Friday.
Reminds me of “the Cinderella story is over, man. They're fighting for clicks, we're fighting for wins.”
"That fighter jet was a little too advanced for its own good. So we shot it down. We're not showboating or anything. We just wanted to let the pilot know we could do it if we wanted to. Can we still get our trophy points for it?"
The amount gained was a fraction of the area of Kiev. And most of Russia's gains were from before the counter-offensive. Ukraine has gained the more important ground compared to Russia. Since Russia is operating a defensive line several hundred of miles long, Ukraine just has to break through that defensive line and start fighting Russia from behind the defensive line. And Ukraine has broken through that line in at least one place. You can tell Russia is losing because they are getting desperate. Conscripting people in the occupied areas and expecting them to fight their own countrymen (and not their Russian overlords) is about as desperate as any military can get. Most likely, they will be used like the new conscripts were in Bakhmut, walking out front with an unloaded rifle to draw the fire of Ukraine's troops so they can be targeted. This explains a lot about why Russia is losing this war. Putin has decided that he knows more than his generals, and he has been calling the shots for some time now. He is surprisingly timid with his moves in this war. It's almost like he has no idea what he's doing. And, yet, he blames his generals when the war doesn't go well. Putin has been ignoring his generals and directing the war himself, analysts say — and has been surprisingly cautious
Russia is now afraid to use Ka-52 helicopters because Ukraine has gotten so good at shooting them down. Russia is scaling back its use of the feared Ka-52 attack helicopter after Ukraine got good at taking them out: ISW
This might be the best argument against funding Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression, and I have to say in advance, it's not a very good one. Apparently, hotels in New Jersey need Patriot defense systems against drone attack. A hotel was recently attacked 12 times by a lowlife that used a drone to drop green dye into the hotel's swimming pool. Man Accused of Using Drone to Drop Green Dye in Motel Pool
Batter every last one against a wall, I suppose. They’ve lost so much armor they’re delivering human meat bags by pick up truck …
Wake us up when Ukraine has lost even a half the number of tanks that Russia has lost. The last numbers I saw were somewhere around 500 tanks lost for Ukraine (almost all older Soviet models), and about 5,000 tanks for Russia. Ukraine may have lost 10-15 western tanks, and maybe twice that many armored vehicles. That's the good news. The great news is that few (if any) people in the western tanks and armored vehicles have died when their tank or vehicle was destroyed. Survival rates are infinitely higher in western vehicles than in the Russian counterparts. And, BTW, only a very sick and disturbed person would refer to dead bodies as "human meat bags". I hope you get help.
You’ll need to be more specific. Since the Russian high tide last year or since the latest counteroffensive began this summer?
Just eyeballing the map, it looks like Russia had captured about one-fifth of Ukraine at its high watermark (not counting the areas seized in 2014), and Ukraine appears to have taken roughly half of that back, including the areas around Kyiv, Kherson, and Kharkiv. So, roughly, I would say they have recovered 10% of their total land mass, not including Crimea or Donbas.
Enough to keep fighting. If Ukraine was running out of troops, Russia would be breaking through Ukraine's lines, and not the other way around.
It has been almost a year since Ukraine has regained >1% of its lost territory. As mentioned by another poster, 2023 YTD Russia actually leads in the territory grab, albeit a very slim amount.
Is this Chi-com propaganda since it's on Tik tok? Those pesky Ruskies having some of their 'election meddling' fun since it's approaching election season(ish)? ...or just plain agonizing truth of the nature of the species that occupies the swamp, in the form of a David Attenborough nature documentary?
