Biden surveys the battlefield. Determines that there are Ukrainians available to die. Says, keep dying …

Rarely mentioned in current commentaries on the war in Ukraine, in the early weeks that followed the February 24, 2022, Russian invasion, Russia and Ukraine engaged in three separate and significant attempts to negotiate a peaceful settlement. Those negotiations had several important things in common. All three could have ended the war before the devastation of Ukraine’s infrastructure, the massive Ukrainian loss of lives, and the increased risk of unchecked escalation. All three featured an offer by Ukraine not to join NATO. And all three were stopped by the United States.

Yeah, this is well documented, but it can't be stated enough. This was why we saw the Russian troop pullback in the north in the early stages. A goodwill gesture as they thought the peace plan was essentially a done deal. And of course, nobody with any military acumen believes Moscow thought they were going to besiege Kyiv with 40,000 troops. But yes, the US and UK thwarted the deal.

You’ll never be able to convince the topknots that Russia did not aim to take a city of four million with 30k troops and were beaten back. Russia is incapable of a good faith gesture because we all know that Russians are evil.

Serbian OSINT. Cites Western and Ukrainian sources. Quotes Ukrainian commanders and troops. Gist: Ukraine is getting slaughtered as lines are collapsing across the front line …

Exactly what did the U.S. do to prevent Ukraine from signing an agreement with Russia? What leverage does Biden have over Ukraine? The only leverage that Biden had was the threat to prevent entry into NATO. According to your (questionable) sources, Zelenskyy was already willing to give that up. The only other thing Biden could threaten Ukraine with is withholding weapons. Again, if Zelenskyy wanted the peace plan, he would not need weapons. So what did Biden threaten him with to get him to give up the peace plan? There was nothing compelling Zelenskyy to obey directions from Biden. The U.S. has a lot of power in the world, but it cannot force other countries to do anything without having some sort of leverage.

Then I’d suggest to Zelensky that, if he wants to hold onto meager remains of his country, then he should say no to Biden and accede to the requirements of Russia.

No, Ukraine has lots of meat yet to throw into the grinder. Reportedly, Kyiv is negotiating, with neighboring countries, to force refugees to return so they can die on the battlefield so Russia can take what it could have been granted without the massive.

So, you admit that Biden didn't force Ukraine to do anything. Making about a fourth of your posts on this thread absurd lies and/or propaganda.

In that Kharkiv direction especially. I mean, if I was Russia, going to all this trouble, I'd at least want to annex Kharkiv. Such a historic, fascinating and beautiful city.

P.S. Russian language is used by most of the locals in Kharkiv.

Russia just attacked a Swedish bearing factory in Ukraine. Swedes are not happy.

Russia confirms it hit Swedish plant in Lutsk, saying it was a military target

Germany refusing to provide missiles unless they have targeting blocks for any russian territory. Just another stall by Germany that helps Russia.

Germany’s capitulation to Russia puts Ukraine and all of Europe at risk (msn.com)

The delays and excuses about sending Ukraine high-performance aircraft, tanks, missiles and other weapons represent a major reason the Russians had the time and freedom to build formidable defensive lines, whose potency we are now seeing. They also arguably facilitate Putin’s dreams of outlasting Kyiv, because they confirm his belief that the West is not solidly behind Ukraine and will eventually tire of supporting it.

This Western failure is pervasive, but Germany has been the most consistent equivocator of all. Apart from earlier dramas about not sending Leopard 2 Tanks to Ukraine unless America sent its tanks first, Germany is playing the same dangerous game with regard to its Taurus missiles. It now claims that it will not send those missiles to Ukraine unless they are programmed not to strike Russian territory. This condition is an insulting reflection of a lack of intelligent thinking about this war and a manifestation of what increasingly looks like cowardice.

With Russia systematically and brutally trying to destroy every aspect of Ukrainian civil infrastructure, it is nonsensical to deny Ukraine the ability to retaliate in kind. Certainly, this pettifogging approach also constitutes a dismissal of the fact that Ukraine is fighting not only for its existence but also for European security and international order more broadly. Like the Polish Solidarity movement in the 1980s, it is fighting for ”your freedom and ours.” Thus, to deny Ukraine the full possibility of self-defense shows a government that has unfortunately learned nothing since that movement emerged.

In similar fashion, the demand that the Taurus missiles and other weapons are not targeted at Russia betrays a shocking absence of strategic thinking in Berlin and an unmerited excessive fear of Russia. This combination justifies Putin’s contempt for Europe and the belief that time is on his side. It certainly speaks to the continuing success of Russian energy and influence operations in Germany that even now generate a cadre of so-called Putin-understanders, or “Putinversteher.”

Germany will provide Ukraine with Taurus missiles if they are programmed not to strike Russian territory (msn.com)

If what he says is correct in that we have thousands of these longer range himars rockets sitting in Germany awaiting dispisal I fail to understand why they haven't been provided to Ukraine

Ukraine seeks "gamechanger" HIMARS upgrade to "win the war"

Dan Rice, a former U.S. Army officer and West Point graduate, was influential in the White House's July decision to send 155mm, tube-fired dual-purpose improved conventional munitions (DPICM) to Ukraine while serving as a special adviser to Ukrainian commander-in-chief General Valery Zaluzhnyi.
Now, Rice is pushing to expand Ukraine's cluster munitions arsenal, urging U.S. lawmakers to approve the transfer of M26 DCIPM rockets to be fired from Kyiv's fleet of High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems—colloquially known as HIMARS.

The rockets, Rice said, will allow Ukrainian troops to hunt Russian artillery pieces—the battlefield's biggest killers that constantly harass Ukrainian units trying to break through Russian defenses—out to 45 kilometers (28 miles), further than the 25 kilometers (15 miles) attainable by the 155mm DCPIM rounds in service since July.

Frontline battalions of the Russians are going to be wiped out, and the rear echelon is going to be wiped out," Rice said. "We have tens of thousands of these cluster rockets in Germany sitting around, waiting to be destroyed. Instead of destroying them, just give them to the Ukrainians. And they'll win the war.
