It's the same land. Just the other end of the current stadium site. It doesn't matter if it's a destination. The traffic to get to a game from the Tampa side is a nightmare. It's why I rarely go to a game.
Also this is just an announcement. Plenty of details to hammer out. The locals are screaming for less condos and businesses and more green space, more public housing and a African American museum built on the site since the area used to be AA community before the Trop was built. They still feel the land was stolen from them by the city.

The rays would easily be over 20k a night this season if Stu just sold cheap tix like everyone else. It wasnt long ago that sub 10k nights were the norm.

Its more than just the traffic (which i know is bad). There are enough people in St Pete And Manatee/Sarasota to get 20k a night in there. Stu is an odd case. Runs a brilliant baseball side, but really hasnt been fan friendly at all and lives in NY wishing he owned the Mets.

I think the concerns over losing the team hurt attendance too. Might be interesting to see in the next few years if attendance increases just from knowing its safe to invest emotions into a secure franchise.

Personally I think a large percentage of those who go are there to see the visiting team.
Manatee and Sarasota are alot of older transplants.

Just bought tickets in St. Pete for ALDS Game 3.

The Rays had a great season and I hope my baby birds can knock them out.

Rays and Marlins both make the playoffs. First time that has happened that I'm aware of.

More like Baby Rays. So many guys from the farm playing. Probably even in the playoffs.

Cash should win a 3rd manager of the year. But the birds have gotten all the hype.

Losing THREE starting pitchers to Tommy John Surgery. Including two Cy Young candidates.

    Losing Franco.

    Losing Lowe

Missing Siri and Manny for large chunks.

    Just incredible.

Take away July and the Rays would have won by 9 games.

To finish 2 games out with so many injuries is amazing. Thats all Kevin Cash.

    Troptober is here!

You should probably tell the Rays fans. Tickets are plentiful and not expensive.

Nothing against the orioles, whom I have great respect for. It's not like it's the Yankees or Red Sox. But I cannot agree with you. But for right now I'm not thinking about the Orioles, only the Rangers

The Rangers were up and down all season but they will be a tough out for sure.

I think the attrition has caught up.
Losing 3 starting pitchers and the entire middle infield is jist yo much to overcome.

Hope they prove me wrong tomorrow, but today was a cluster of errors and zero hitting.

Frankly, same as last year. It has been something like 26 innings since they last scored in the playoffs and that was just one run.

    Welp
So much promise. All collapsed with the injury bug.

19700 in the place for a playoff game, lowest ever, today not much better, guess the fans were smart not to waste their time.

If the Marlins host a playoff game (which doesn't look likely) they can probably break that record.

I don't know about the current team/fan base, but the Marlins 2 prior WS trips played in front of sold out crowds. Long time ago, but doesn't fit the attendance narrative.

Honestly with the attendance draw they had for this series, the city/county should rethink a new stadium.

According to Elon, we weren't eliminated. Game started at 2:08, but I can't seem to find a score

Rays sell out bigger playoff rounds too. The league put them on at 3pm and gave less than 48 hours notice for wild card games.
