A friend was in the minors. He had tommy John surgery on a healthy arm cause it would make him better. It didn’t.
Its fun for the kids though. My middle schooler is quite the athlete, but loves Banana Ball. Ex big leaguers are on the team now too, so thats sort of cool.
I was fine when they used to do it as a one off type of thing, the Bananas stopped playing regular baseball to do this gimmick full time. Dont let anyone tell you I dont respect tradition.
Yeah, I don't enjoy it that much either, but I never really cared for the 'Trotters either. But kids love it and the guys playing get to make a living having fun. So I'm fine with it.
Teams often emulate the Rays. What if this is all 3D chess stuff to get our guys hurt first so that we will be the first bionic pitching staff and win a title while everyone else is a step behind?
If we allow this to continue, pretty soon there will be "Gator Ball" where Graham Mertz gets to use a T-Shirt cannon to shoot a football to a receiver on stilts.
LOL… It is fantastic. While certainly geared for entertainment. They play to win and lose. This is not the Harlem Globetrotters. But I get if you are old and narrow minded it may not be for you…
Well he was a 30 year old in the minors it was really his last shot. I think he is coaching at a high school now.
Have now won 5 of their last 6 series, 11-7, playing .611 ball over that span. And they have lost ground to Baltimore as I type. Tough division
Nice win for the Rays today. And nice to see Fairbanks pitch the 9th without 3 walks, 2 wild pitches and a hit batter.
I was afraid of this based upon what the Dominican officials were saying. MLB officials haven't weighed in too much yet but this is what I was reading between the lines from the Dominican officials saying they were two very serious criminal complaints.
The leaks are from the Dominican Republic investigative unit. Not the Major League baseball investigative unit. He lost the chance to have them get ahead of the story. Of course, I have mixed feelings about that. Reading about how they operate, I think it's 20% learning the facts and 80% Winston Wolf. But either way, he lost the ability to send in the Wolf by not calling Marcellus Wallace, i.e., Major League baseball.
Not good. I didn't figure he'd play another game for the Rays this year unless they somehow wrapped up the investigation quickly. And now very well might never play for the Rays again. Better get Carson Williams ready for next year. The timeline for this thing is weird. I keep reading that the social media posts came out on Sunday. But the Rays clearly knew before then. Basabe had 1 at bat for Durham Saturday night and then they pulled him from the game and told him he was being promoted to the Rays. So they Rays found something out late Saturday afternoon or early evening. If they'd known earlier on Saturday it's unlikely Basabe would get 1 at bat in the game and then get pulled out to go to Tampa.
