Did they really have a Wander Franco hat promotion Sunday for fans 14 and under?

That's some next level meta stuff.

Meanwhile the Rays head out west again in what has been a run of multiple west coast trips it seems. Weird.

That's the world we live in, but at the very least he's probably reaping some stuff with his behavior and bad choices (even if he's not a pedo). IF you're out there treating people like shit, you are probably gonna get a 'clapback' at some point.

No, choosing to have sex with 14 year olds can trash an adults life

Of course, but just a false public accusation is extremely damaging. Just in my line of work, a public accusation like this would be extremely damaging even if it was just a pissed off business association of some sort. Perception is reality and public figures are very vulnerable.

Meanwhile Basabe, his replacement, has reached base 3 of 8 trips to the plate, has 2 RBI and has contributed to 4 runs in his first 2 MLB games.

    Nothing more "Rays" than that.

He's married and has 2 kids. So even if it turns out that he was just messing around with a 19 year old, he's the one who put himself in the position for this kind of thing to happen. I don't have too much sympathy for him either way.

That's harsh. Being smeared as both a pedo and a rapist would be a very disproportionate price to pay IF he was merely having a consensual affair with another adult - something I'm sure is common with professional athletes.

Agree. Especially from a moral standpoint. But certainly nothing new in his profession with messing around on the side.

Season marches on. Nice response from the team last night. Glas looked solid and the bats did their thing.

Sorry, I just don't have a ton of sympathy for guys who fool around on their wives. If she was 19 then he will face no legal punishment.

That's understandable I guess, though it wouldn't surprise me if many spouses of the rich and famous either look the other way or even have an understanding. If his wife wants to leave him for being unfaithful and take the kids and a bunch of money, I feel like that's sufficient punishment for that without him losing his career over it. Of course, that's even assuming the relationships being alleged happened during his marriage, and I'm not sure we know that either. I suspect the people involved in investigating this stuff already know a ton more than we do though.

He won't lose his career if she was of age, but he might lose some endorsement money. I'm just tired of men behaving badly and being selfish. My father fooled around on my mother when I was a young kid and that's why I grew up in a single mother household. Of course I didn't know what was going on at the time and only found out many years later that that was the reason for the divorce. I really hope that the girl (or girls) in question were of age, and Franco can resume his career with the Rays, and maybe learn some lessons from all this.

I really like Basabe. Been following him in the Rays system for a couple of years. I'd been following Franco in the system since he was 16. For me one of the most enjoyable things about being a fan of an MLB team is following the farm system. I pull up the Rays minor league team box scores every day to see how everyone is doing. It's kinda similar to following college football recruiting. It's the future of the team. Some of the guys the Rays just drafted are already contributing at low A Charleston and doing well. Hopefully we'll see them with the Rays in a couple of years.

I do that as well (thought I was the only one who knew how well the Rays minor system was doing). I really do hope Franco didn't do this, but, if he did, the weird thing is that the Rays have a glut of potential SS replacements (none quite as talented as him, but each level has a pretty solid shortstop right now). There had been a lot of talk about converting Caminero in Montgomery into a 3B or 2B. Maybe that stops for now (although they still like Williams at Bowling Green more than him defensively, I think).
