    You don't make any sense.

Trump isn't worried about spending - he's projected to add another $3 trillion to the deficit!

You are watching a reality TV show right now where Elon and Trump are looking under couch cushions for pocket change so they can later make the case, that rich people in this country need a PERMANENT tax cut.

Guess who gets to pay for that? Yes, YOU.

    How do I know?

Because the ONLY legislative accomplishment in his first administration (literally the first thing he did after assuming office and signing executive orders) was to cut taxes for the rich.

Now you get to watch the the horse (Dump) and pony (Musk) show before he makes them permanent.

Please tell me how that helps YOU?

He thinks not only is the deficit going to be reduced, he probably expects a DOGE dividend check. Because you know, trickle down economics will work this time. If we just fire enough people the economy will boom. Guy probably already has new rims picked out for his Nissan and everything. Ballin.

If you ever hired a veteran, you know the rules. While they may not apply to some/all of the DOGE cuts, they exist. Most center on discrimination, which is a low bar for proof apparently. Specifically to federal jobs, it depends on the position, but the process of written notification with documentation has been largely violated and has been the basis of multiple law suits already apparently.

So your claim of special rules for the firing of veterans doesn’t exist?

It really for them because they are by nature transactional. It is very difficult for them to appreciate that government is not a for-profit entity, by definition. It is there to govern and serve. And thus, it is difficult to understand the cost-benefit of services/agencies when the agencies are not run to profit.

Maybe the goal is not necessarily to make the government run more efficiently, but rather to tell the public that they shaved off waste, so that they can claim victory of campaign promises.

My entire beef with the so-called DOGE is that it is entirely political in its execution. There is zero objectivity, and worse, there are insane conflicts of interests.

The idea of a complete review of government agencies and their efficiencies is fantastic, but it needs to be done objectively, by an independent entity (like Deloitte, KPMG, PwC, etc.), who actually understands the purpose of government and its agencies. That’s just not what’s happening right now.

Pretty sure we'll see that it's just going to be to "justify" tax cuts.

Actually, our voices and uproar over the mass firings of Federal Workers have changed things. See the many rehires of essential workers (ATC, Covid, Ebola, Nuclear) just to name a few. With their tails between their legs, Musk and Trump were forced to plead and beg for these workers to come back.

So our voices were heard and changes were made.

I personally know thousands of people in my practice who will lose Medicaid because Trump wants to give billionaires and corporations tax cuts. These citizens do not love Trump as well as the hundreds of thousands of federal workers, their spouses and the small businesses that rely upon them.

    I'm an oral surgeon.

So those folks that lose Medicaid, will be clogging up our hospitals for tooth aches and extractions; these hospital services will be written off, potentially causing these hospitals (especially rural hospitals) to close. Also, people who lose Medicaid will also be going to the hospital for mundane things like bronchitis, sore throats, ankle sprains, common colds and many other minor ailments further clogging our hospitals. And then these hospital services will be written off, again causing serious financial hardships for hospitals.

May God help us if the bird flu evolves to be transmitted from person to person; it will be another healthcare catastrophe. Thanks, Trump! (deja vu Covid)

They absolutely do and I said as much. However, you are 100% correct that many of those lay-offs do not fall into the specifics that those rules cover and that I was wrong to claim so.

Yeah it’s not really saving money. It is just pushing it somewhere else. Higher private insurance rates, more government funding for indigent emergency care, etc etc.

The paper straw, Guy Spinelli was sure, would be the way of the future.

After 50 years toiling in the country’s paper mills, the 75-year-old plunked his life savings into creating a “24 hours strong” straw that he manufactures in Woodstock, Illinois, and sells to more than 1,000 restaurants, bars, coffee shops and casinos. But now, two years in, Spinelli says the party is over. President Donald Trump’s executive order last month calling to “end the use of paper straws” dealt a swift, decisive blow to his business, Boss Straw. Orders have stalled, even though the action only stopped purchases of paper straws by the federal government. Instead of selling $800,000 worth of straws this year, Spinelli fears it’ll be one-tenth of that.

“Our distributors are saying, ‘Everyone’s going back to plastic now because of the president,’” he said. “The president I voted for, the man who says ‘Let’s make America great again, let’s help small businesses grow,’ that man is going to put me out of business.”

I think most people disliked the paper straws, but why would you throw your entire life savings into something, not very smart. I wonder how many plastic straw companies went out of business when they went to paper straws

Indeed, why would anyone throw their life savings into starting a business in America?
Do you even hear yourself? Small businesses are the backbone of the U.S. and the global economy. Roughly 90% of all businesses by number.
Changing market conditions are a fact of life in business. There are no guarantees. The real point of that straw manufacturer's story is that a whimsical idea from a half-baked influencer can cause havoc in the marketplace.
