    and it just keeps getting worse and worse. wonder if they will up the budget now.

    MAGA wouldn't know what "fairly and accurately" is if it hit them in the face

    guess we know where all those unemployed slanderous newsmax and fox people will be headed soon. will they get qualified immunity so they can say whatever they want about election workers on parents of child murder victims with impunity now?

    Trump taps immigration hard-liner Kari Lake as head of Voice of America

    President-elect Donald Trump said Wednesday that he's picking Kari Lake as director of Voice of America, installing a staunch loyalist who ran unsuccessfully for Arizona governor and a Senate seat to head the congressionally funded broadcaster that provides independent news reporting around the world.

    In a statement, Trump said Lake would be ultimately be appointed by and work closely with the head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media for his incoming administration, “who I will announce soon.”

    He said Lake will “ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media.”

    Unlike all those, voice of America actually is literal “state sponsored” media so in a way it is expected to be propaganda. It was originally created by the U.S. govt to offer another alternative to Nazi propaganda sources being broadcast into Europe. It was a WW2 era creation.


    It’s not something I’ve ever paid attention to so I couldn’t really say how much they’ve deviated from straight news reporting in the past. I’m sure during WW2 and other wars they probably dipped their toes into Pro-America propaganda. I’m honestly not sure of their effectiveness or necessity, I doubt they are cutting through into Russia or China where the state locks down reporting and may even block them. So unless it’s someone listening to old school radio V.O.A may not even actually be able to reach the intended audience as it was when they were created (back then, essentially a battle of state media radio broadcasts).

    With all of these Trump-First loyalists now running the government, it feels like we are living in real-time in the middle of the How-To book.

    It was originally designed as pro-America propaganda against Nazi and Cold War foes.

    Sounds like in more recent years it’s become more like PBS. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I can’t say I know much about their viewing/listening audience.

    Trump will probably turn it into a place to peddle ED pills into foreign markets.
