And, like all strongman authoritarians, if they avoid consequences, they see it as permission to break the next guardrail.

The insurrectionists targeted the Parliamentarian’s office looking for the certificates, which would stop the process. They wanted to delay the count to trigger the constitutionally mandated date to throw the election into the House. This was planned. Fortunately, the staff loaded the boxes and carried them with them.

There are also other copies, but that’s certainly no excuse.

They didn't seem nearly bright enough to figure that out on their own.

This day will go down in infamy as arguably the darkest day of American democracy. Some folks are really in here doing mental gymnastics trying to equate this nearly-catastrophic American event to some windows being broken and TVs being looted at Target lol

A 2nd US Capitol police officer has died

He might've been one of the officers that helped get the MAGA domestic terrorists in. Maybe the whole attack pushed him over the edge. Perhaps he received threats. Whatever the case may be, it had to have been quite significant for him to off himself.

Regardless of whatever the reason was. This is another life gone because of Donald Trump. Another casualty to add to the list for Mr. "Did Anyone Die?"

It was not a homogeneous mob. They did not act randomly. There were many militia and radical right-wing groups that attended in groups. They coordinated in advance of January 6th. Watch the videos of teams breaking through windows to access the building. Some had radios and earphones for coordination.

Most were just everyday QAnon morons and Trump cultists.

EDIT: The US Attorney for DC said last night there were organized groups with equipment and coordinated plans among the mob.

While you are correct about the stupidity, I think you are incorrect about why they feel they can be so stupid. These people truly believe two things: (1) this is their country and (2) they are 'above the law'. These two beliefs are derived from the fact that they do not expect white people to get beaten or shot for committing armed breaking and entering. They think they are 'patriots' b/c they are white and chant 'USA, USA'. They view any election result or judicial ruling that contradicts their ideology as illegitimate, and the actual voting of minorities as 'voter fraud.' Their stupidity is born of outrage and fear that this is a democratic republic, a land of immigrants based on a motto of E Pluribus Unum.

It's on page 2 of the "RE fraud for dummies" guidebook. Works like a mother for people like him.

Wrong again Coop. Actually, Antifa was back at it that same night in Portland causing more destruction.

    https://nypost.com/2021/01/08/rage-at-capitol-assault-makes-excuses-for-summer-riots-all-the-more-disgraceful/?utm_source=url_sitebuttons&utm_medium=site buttons&utm_campaign=site buttons

There is no difference to many Americans to what happened at the Capitol and what happened on a nightly basis for months last year. Your comment that the result of all the riots last year was that “some windows were broken and TVs were looted” is idiotic. But hey, if you want to LOL at the fact that at least 30 innocent people were killed, hundreds more were injured and millions and millions of dollars of destruction was caused, have at it.

As long as we’re on the subject of organized radicals acting within the insurrectionist mob, watch this group of organized, body armored men work their way into the Capitol.

I know deflecting back to BLM is the right wing talking point since the events of 1/6, and you feel it’s your duty to buy the narrative. There is one huge difference that all Americans should easily recognize. The BLM protests/riots were result of an actual thing, a shocking video of a guy getting cold blooded murdered by a racist cop! It was an organic reaction to something real, something that outraged the entire country (everyone except perhaps the “patriots” at Trump’s rally viscously attacking the symbol of our democracy). Obviously it got way out of hand, and some left wing anarchists got in there and did some damage as they sometimes do when real protests happen. They take advantage of it. Let’s not also forget that some element of white right wing militias got involved in the “violence” part of those protests too. They too were looking to incite trouble. Then you had a bunch of “looters” who were probably there for the free shoes/tv’s. There was a lot more going on with the BLM protests, the majority of it was peaceful(daytime and organized), but you had widespread unrest and crime too(nighttime and disorganized). That doesn’t make it equal.

Unlike the BLM protests, which were a response to something real - insurrection at the capitol was quite simple - it was an artificial thing orchestrated by the President of the United States! He fed his believers a bunch of bs that the election was “stolen”, that if they “got tough”, it could magically be overturned. Neither thing was remotely true according to our laws or democratic norms. He literally invited the rally on that day and time, an organized assault during business hours, knowing when the electoral votes were being counted. When Pence informed him he wouldn’t participate in an illegal coup in congress, the President sicked his dogs on them then watched with glee. A direct attack on our democracy. You can draw a straight line from that mob, those 5 deaths, and the President of the United States (as well as certain media personalities and other enablers)

Millions and millions of dollars in destruction can be replaced. The damage done to the Republican Party can’t be undone. First time in American history a seditious president has incited a violent insurrection where armed domestic terrorists took over a federal building and killed police men. Sorry buddy, nothing will ever compare to what happened on January 6, 2021 and that’s that. Day will go down in infamy FOREVER.

The fact that we still have folks trying to downplay armed domestic terrorists with guns and bombs storming a federal building in D.C. is hilarious. And to top it off the entire thing was egged on and spurred by the president!!

There's video circulating now that appears to be the mob pulling Officer Sicknick into the crowd and beating him to death.

The party of Blue Lives Matter, ladies and gentlemen.

Yes, I've seen it. I debated reposting it, but frankly it is so violent, I was concerned about the ToS. Needless to say, it is the kind of violence that Trump has glorified to his supporters, repeatedly. Just like all authoritarians.

Initially it was reported he was just struck once. But that was a mob beating, lotta people are going to have to be id’d and hopefully charged with murder. Could be capital charges coming, everyone in the area was complicit. Disgusting.
