Do you believe that? I can think of plenty of things to riot over that would be extremely righteous, particularly if there were no alternative to set an injustice right. People riot because they want justice, however skewed that notion might be.

Black people came to their anger from experience, not by the words of someone else. Notice how they turned on police just because they were doing their job? Sound familiar?

After watching and reading more on the events of yesterday,

at the end of the day, this is a time where Trump needed to be a leader the most. And in that, he has completely and utterly failed. I completely understand his cabinet members resigning.

It's a shame to see President Trump going out this way. Despite my disagreeing with the characterizations of many on this board and by the media of this event and of Trump, this is still a complete and utter failure on his part.

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement.

Living in a free society like the United States, there is no justification for rioting.

To say otherwise makes you part of the problem.

Why don’t you explain to me how being more upset by the president directing a seditious mob to interrupt the democratic process than BLM riots is hypocritical? I’ll hang up and listen.

You don't think the media or Democratic politicians stoked the flames in these people that ultimately resulted in the riots? You don't think they bear any responsibility in raising the temperature?

I know we disagree on the following, but like this event, I'd say the riots are based on a false premise that America remains systemically racist in 2020 and 2021.

Stop excusing riots. Stop saying, "I hate riots, but I understand why you're angry."

If you riot, you should go to jail. Period. No more kiddie gloves. No more bigotry of low expectations. No more hiding behind victimhood. If you riot, you're a criminal who should be put in jail.

I saw a pic of a guy flying the Georgia flag. Not the state, which I assume was his goal. The country of Georgia flag....

I got about as upset about the BLM riots as I did the riots after the Eagles won the Super Bowl. It’s unfortunate. Needless property destruction and violence should not be tolerated. People should be arrested. But none of those were an attack on American democracy.

You dodged the question. But tacitly you are saying rioting can be justified if you are in an "unfree" society. So I will take that as a yes, rioting can be righteous to those who feel unfree in their society.

So in addition to being a seditious criminal, the guy is a telemarketer. That’s strike 2 against that poor fellow.

Feelings are not reality. We live in a free society.

Justifying riots in the United States, especially today, is disgusting. Everyone who does is part of the problem.

But for those who didn't live in a free society, like pre civil rights Blacks, would rioting have been justified in your opinion?

And, apparently, not very bright. "Uh, I'm going to riot, attack the US Capitol and pause to have my photo taken while doing it. This is sooo cool! What could go wrong?"

Who gets to decide if society is free or unfree? The Chinese don't call themselves unfree, that's why they call themselves a Republic. If the Chinese say their society is free, that would mean the Hong Kong riots weren't justified.

Riots are bad. Riots that are instigated by a president are even worse.

Certainly a grayer area. Possibly, but I don't think so. Hard to say.

But if that's where you think we are right now, we should be on the brink of war right now.
