Pence deserves some level of credit, because he took a stand and cut off Trumps unconstitutional efforts - dooming them to failure. But all he did is adhere to his constitutional sworn oath to defend America and defend the constitution from enemies foreign and domestic. That is normally a very low bar, but I guess when that enemy *is* the President, some level of courage is required.

Cotton and Rubio I believe were already on the right side of this, but I don’t think at this point it takes much courage to be calling out Cruz and Hawley for spreading nonsense and lies. That failed. Realistically a bunch of people should be expelled from congress. Forced to resign. But does anyone expect that to happen?

Staged event that got someone murdered. You don't get into the capital building unless they want you in the capital building.

When it comes to reading the room and calming people down when necessary, yes he's a bad leader.

I was a Republican before Never trump, now an independent. I have zero use for anyone that carried that nut jobs water. I thought Trump was a nut long before he ran, my thought process was simply reinforced.
    Seemed like an easy decision

I've always been team Rubio over Cruz, and I think he's right again, here.

Faux outrage? I can tell you that my outrage is quite real after a group of Trump supporters forcefully entered the US Capitol.

Pence is who ordered the DC national guard in when *TRUMP REFUSED TO DO IT*. Pence likely acted unconstitutionally by effectively becoming Acting President without the 25th amendment. The fact that he did so shows how truly unfit Trump is to serve another minute in that office.

Also, he apparently doesn't know he's a bad leader because he went out and talked to them when he didn't have to at all. Again, if you want to rest your case on the idea that he didn't incite anything he's just is bad at being a leader and a normal person and escalated the situation unintentionally by his actions, I suppose you can die on that hill if you want. What are you actually trying to defend here?

So utterly sad that a young woman, a US veteran nonetheless, lost her life for such a stupid cause and worthless person.

Trump said that "WE" would march down to the capitol indicating that Trump himself would be going.

At the same rally, Giuliani told the crowd it would be "trial by combat".

Giuliani calls for 'trial by combat' at D.C. rally

Trump Jr called on Republicans to block the electoral college certification and if they didn't, then "we are coming for you"

Were you outraged when cities were burning all Summer? Honest question.

Many on here, weren't. Many in the media weren't.

People were calling it the natural result of oppression, the language of the unheard, mostly peaceful, a distraction from the evils of the Trump administration, etc.

I was definitely outraged at the police for causing violence and destruction in our cities.

"Over the next 10 days, we get to see the machines that are crooked, the ballots that are fraudulent. And if we're wrong, we will be made fools of. But if we're right, and lot of them will go to jail. So -- let's have trial by combat" -- Giuliani

    That's the full quote.

Don't think he's actually asking people to break in and punch people in the house of Congress.

He called for the protests to be "wild." He told the Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by." He told them to go to the capitol. His lawyer called for "trial by combat." The people intended to hear that message heard it loud and clear and are not afraid to let you know how they interpreted it. The people dissembling to try to pretend that he hasn't been encouraging violence for a long while now could claim that he never explicitly said to break through the doors, bring weapons, and vandalize the capitol. The Trump coalition relies on people being willing to do that even in the face of it being obvious enough that every social media platform is suspending him for encouraging violence.

So you think all the QAnon nutters were crisis actors? That congress and the senate were ok with getting breached just for the show?

It’s kind of weird how you guys go back and forth between government incompetence, and sophisticated deep state conspiracy almost at will, whenever it’s convenient.

So if they were let in, who made the call? Remember it was reported the national guard was initially delayed, and it was Pence that eventually ordered them in. There was no mention of Trump at all in any of the cleanup efforts. That told me all I needed to know. It was an overwhelmed police force, and an inadequate second level response - with a possible delay put in place by Trump lackeys. There is no doubt Trump wanted the chaos itself, he orchestrated it. The only question is if he was actually going for a sustained siege.

I think most were, myself included.

There were two different things going on. Peaceful protests to draw attention to a systemic problem. And opportunistic thugs/anarchists who used the protests as cover to drive mayhem.

I have zero tolerance for looting/rioting, whatever the underlying cause.
