Verdict reached in the Carroll-Trump case (liable for defamation and lesser battery charge)

I didn't follow the case closely. The deposition video I saw was partly edited but went on long enough to get a feel.

I think perhaps the worst moment I saw for him was after he claimed he couldn't have sexually assaulted or raped Carroll because she's not his type - obviously suggesting she's unattractive. At some point, he was shown a picture of her standing around him in a group and immediately said it looked like his ex-wife. His attorney jumped in to correct him, explaining that it was Carroll. Trump then argued that the picture was grainy.

That sort gotcha moment rarely happens in my experience. Trump is obviously smart and has been through many depositions. He was actually relatively behaved through most of it. But I think his arrogance just got the best of him because he thinks everyone around him is stupid and doesn't like being questioned.

My god do you not have even the slightest sense of humor. JJ said that he does pay money for sex. I replied that in this case, if you believe him, he paid and didn’t even have sex. How in the hell do you pervert that into defending him?

Well, I think Trump's logic is faulty, but under his own logic it does sound like he buried himself.

That's the sense I got in the election cases at least. That the elite, white shoe law firms either didn't want the controversy, weren't willing to push lies, and/or thought he wasn't going to pay his bill. In this case, I think his lawyer is well known at least but I don't his reputation. I'm not sure if Clearance Darrow could have done much if they weren't going to put the civil defendant on the stand or offer a defense - though some did question the defense strategy of going as hard as they apparently did against Carroll on cross examination. I have no idea if it would have mattered or not.

Depends on when you check. For me it was a red pop up box which means they probably modified their web page as quickly as possible for real breaking news

They largely don't want to work with him because he takes idiotic positions, undermines the work they do, and then doesn't pay his bills.

I will say one defense of Trump, echoed in the Access Hollywood tape, rings true. None of his legal troubles arise from conduct that differs in kind or degree from the kind of conduct that he and wealthy men like him have done openly with impunity for years. They do generally let guys like him get away with it, and it is rare that those Trump and Harvey Weinstein face actual consequences. So in that respect, he can genuinely feel like a victim - he is just acting in ways which were always communicated to be acceptable. But for his elevated profile in winning the Presidency, he would likely still be acting like that regularly, and in fact may be, and no one would challenge him

On what grounds should he base that appeal?

I'm no lawyer, I'm not a legal expert, and what I say is not legal advice. I know you weren't talking to me, but I want to be clear.

Given your very quick and clear disclosure, I'd say you're about a third way there. The Florida Bar approves, lol.

Most egregious civil case since OJ was found liable in civil court. Those two railroaded celebrities should start a fund you can donate to.

I would never donate to him. Like I've stated already the lack of evidence doesn't justify the 5 million fine. He'll appeal this and most likely will win

Lol... just saying that would land him a $2 million fine in New York... even for something that happened 30 years ago.

Are you suggesting that he's not going to file an appeal
