Today at a gas startion convenience store I saw a guy, who worked for a gas tank maintenance company, a vendor of the store, verbally abuse a short sweet soft spoken black lady who approached his truck and made some suggestion like he should move Or put his parking lights on. He starts yelling at her (while sitting in the truck) and says he isn’t going to do anything different. I walk over to the lady to ask her what happened and the dude starts yelling at me. We had a loud exchange for several minutes where he made several threats and other disparaging statements. I never backed down. He finally called me a “social Justice warrior” even thought I never said or implied anything about race. He was probably in his 40’s, short hair, ZZ Top beard and large beer gut.

That is the state of where these people’s heads are at. They feel so aggrieved they think they can act with impunity. While I can’t know what is in his “heart” he made it pretty clear when he called me a social Justice warrior.

I reported it to multiple corporate outlets of the convenience store chain and also made complaints on the tank company. He ####ed with the wrong person today.

It just makes me angry. People shouldn’t be treated like that. This unthreatening lady in a minivan with a small child.

The lady was content to just walk away but she did thank me numerous times for sticking up for her.

I was already worked up from something completely different so the timing for him was not fortunate.

Glad you reported this to his company. He has no business treating an elderly lady (or you) that way. The fact he did it on the clock only serves to make him accountable. Hopefully there is a consequence.

    She wasn’t elderly. I’d say late 20,s early 30’s.

I think I would have intervened regardless, but the thought crossed my mind it is an embarrassment to be white when assholes like that are out there and I’d like her to know we aren’t all like that. He seemed to think he was superior to her and I wanted him to know he wasn’t top of the food chain. He said something at the end as he disengaged like he isn’t going to argue with an idiot, then I laughed at him and said “wait, so you are smart? You’re telling me you’re smart?” I think that is where it ended.

Kinda agree, but there's still plenty of room to enjoy our country. It's becoming increasingly easy to locate instances of suffering, stupidity, and assholery. About a month ago my wife, dog and I drove to Colorado. Stayed a few nights in the mountains, did some hiking, and ate some excellent meals. I collected bottles of outstanding whiskey along the way. We had a fantastic time and saw some beautiful landscapes. Along the way, I was thinking about how nice things were. Sure, there's room to acknowledge privilege in this space and I'm happy to do so. At the same time, we have worked really hard to be in the position to enjoy some of the wonders and spoils of the U.S.

This isn't to discount all the challenges and suffering of Americans and American women in particular of late. I just think too much of the douchebaggery gets highlighted and not enough of the greatness gets attention.

Having the life experiences I do, I feel very privileged to live in this country. And as you said, I do think the bad gets elevated too often at the detriment of the good.

Acting like this has become socially acceptable to a certain element of the culture. I won't elucidate on the obvious reason (person) why.

Probably. Hopefully for him his FB buddies help him find a new job. The complaints I left were very specific.

FWIW, I take being called a social justice warrior as a compliment. If I'm going to be recognized as a warrior for something, I'm glad it's justice. And I'm proud of it.

You nailed it. They “feel” aggrieved versus actually being aggrieved.

I don't think America was ever really as great as some people would say. It's a great country with such wild ups and downs that to claim it the greatest country on earth is foolish, imo. To answer your question, which may or may not have been serious, I don't think we can make the U.S. much better. "America," btw, fails to recognize so many of the other nations in the Americas. We need to get the Govt straightened out, that's for damn sure, but I don't see it happening in our lifetime.

In the correct context absolutely. I don’t think a mob beating somebody down on social media who states a generally harmless but non conformist opinion is social Justice. But there are certain times when intervention is called for.

I never said or implied he was racist, until he called me a social Justice warrior, then I said “There it is. There you go. It’s out there now”.

I was the recipient of a little mini road rage today. I was making a right turn out of a convenience store and some guy in one of those little rice burners with the loud mufflers didn't like the fact he had to take his foot of the gas when I pulled out and laid on his horn. Half a block up the road the light was red anyway and once again as soon as the light turned green he laid on the horn again. It was in a 25 mph zone so I made sure for the next few blocks my speedometer didn't read 1 mph over 25. As soon as he got the opportunity to go around me he floored it and cut in real sharp to try to run me off the road. People can be such ass holes.
