After Guyana outlawed slavery, it brought in a lot of indentured workers from India. So in Georgetown, you've got the three distinct groups: Whites left over from British rule, descendants of freed African slaves and descendants of indentured Indians.
When you get out into the bush, you see a lot of the Amerindians.

How does one get to Jonestown, and what do they offer in the way of refreshments?

There was a limited television series called Full Circle, on Max I think, which had that history as part of a plot point. Decent watch although a bit overwritten.

And I was just making the point to suggest why a Brit like limey might have interests there

You may be right, but then the barrier isnt lack of commitment from the US but non-agreement from Israel. My overall point is only that strong alliances act as strong deterrents.

The US Israel alliance is a strong deterrent to invading Israel, but first and foremost is the IDF. US troops in tripwire positions are the greatest deterrent

And the US may be attacked by Britain, France and Spain. Or perhaps 300 indigenous tribes.

Our cab driver from the Georgetown airport was a black guy guy named Winston who played nothing but ‘50s American pop in his old Camry.

surprise, Venezuela voted to take the area

Map Shows Region Venezuela Has Voted To Take From Guyana (msn.com)

Venezuelans voted in favor of claiming sovereignty over a vast swathe of neighboring country Guyana on Sunday, according to the nation's election officials, raising fresh fears that President Nicolás Maduro could seek to annex the territory by force.

The National Election Council claimed to have counted more than 10.5 million votes in a referendum, the Associated Press reported. The council, however, did not explain whether the number of votes was equivalent to each voter or if it was the sum of each individual answer in the five-question referendum.

They held a national election in Venezuela asking if they should do this. 90 percent of the counted votes endorsed the invasion.

Not sure how that would affect our response. Oh, you used democratic means to invade your neighbor and take his stuff. Well, never mind then.

I was pointing out what happened. I also am not sure how true those voting numbers are. Hitler used plebiscites to annex Austria and maybe part s of Poland. It’s been a while.

Very good point. As I recall, Saddam Hussein once won a referendum with 100% of the vote backing him.

I understand the doubt, but it’s true. You just have to accept these things, like, you know, those totally above-board plebiscites in Russian-occupied Ukraine.
