Agree. More than one commentator also suggested that with his background he could have a constructed a more sophisticated and presumably more effective IED.

Seem like somewhat different pathologies. I suppose in either case by acting publicly they want to be "remembered" rather than forgotten.

As one commentator pointed out while they were assigned to the same base at the same time, they weren't in the same unit and the base is home to over 50,000 military personnel. Not beyond the realm of possibility that they could have met while they were stationed at Ft. Liberty (I still think of the base as Ft. Bragg) but the chances are unlikely.
    FYI:
Fort Liberty, formerly Fort Bragg, is a military installation of the United States Army in North Carolina, and is one of the largest military installations in the world by population, with over 52,000 military personnel.[2] The military reservation is located within Cumberland and Hoke counties,[3] and borders the incorporated city and communities of Fayetteville, Spring Lake, and Southern Pines.

Fort Liberty covers over 251 square miles (650 km2). It is the home of the Army's XVIII Airborne Corps and is the headquarters[4] of the United States Army Special Operations Command, which oversees the U.S. Army 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) and 75th Ranger Regiment. It is also home to the 82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army Forces Command, U.S. Army Reserve Command, and Womack Army Medical Center. Fort Liberty maintains two airfields: Pope Field, where the United States Air Force stations global airlift and special operations assets as well as the Air Force Combat Control School, and Simmons Army Airfield, where Army aviation units support the needs of airborne and special operations forces on post.
Correction: Their time at Ft. Liberty did not overlap meaning the chance that they ever met was even less likely than it would have been had they been assigned to the base at the same time.

I haven't followed this real closely, but ... So ... a Trump supporter rents a Tesla fills it full of fireworks, drives it to a Trump property sets it off but shoots himself in the head first ...? Is that what we've got? Does any part of that make any sense?

He was on approved leave from the military too, stationed in Germany. It seems he may have had a bad breakup or something?

So this guy in Las Vegas was a Green Beret.

He was an active member of the special forces, specifically the Green Berets. He rigged this vehicle to explode using firework-mortars and gasoline cans. Only Livelsberger was killed, though several others were injured. Police now say that he shot himself before the vehicle exploded:

Las Vegas sheriff: Special Forces Master Sgt. Matthew Livelsberger shot himself before his rented Cybertruck blew up at the Trump hotel

Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill added that this incident was likely a suicide (via WaPo):

It appears this was a suicide - deadman had a bullet hole in his head and they found a revolver between his feet

It was not likely he shot himself after he exploded the vehicle.

Have you read any MAGA/QAnon conspiracy theories? To them anything, including someone shooting themselves in the head after being blown to bits in an explosion, is possible.

I said it way upthread. Their personal lives falling apart financially and romantically is almost always the undercarriage to the train they end up on. They will paint it with politics, religion etc, but in the end it’s just self loathing, hopelessness and a desire to take out their anger in a way everyone has to pay attention to that is the real reason. It’s why defining this stuff as terrorism or not is just silly, we have an angry disaffected man problem in this country far more than a domestic terrorism problem. Just look around at all the ways it is manifesting right now. These attacks are symptoms, not the root cause.

Well we aren't going to tackle deindustrialization, capitalism, gender panic, guns, how the US military and its wars are a breeding ground for disaffected violent young men, far-right propaganda, etc any-time soon

It does not, and neither does letting a woman in yoga pants into the New Orleans terrorist's home the day after to film.

Listen, I'm the #1 fan of yoga pants, but it's pretty outrageous the media is allowed at a crime scene a day after the crime. Especially media in yoga pants.

So sad. Green Beret. The amount of effort he put in to get to that point is beyond what 99% of humanity can do physically and mentally, to end it all like this is just beyond sad. Not NO sad (just kids doing what all of us have done at Sugar Bowls past), but very sad nonetheless.

Deindustrialization is being tackled at this very moment and has been for nearly a decade now. It's just that the lame-ass American MSM is just now catching up.
