I wonder if he has a history of mental illness or just got radicalized online? Apparently, his posts were concerning enough that Truth Social reportedly notified the Feds. If he was just larping online, he presumably would have come out and said he'd gone a little overboard. I do wonder whether there aren't better options than going to his house where he has his arsenal and doing a SWAT raid though.
There have been mentally ill shooting at Presidents since at least the 1880s. The new thing here is people are able to create their own news feedback loops. Trump is either too stupid to realize this or knows exactly what he is doing. How long till one of these crackpots takes a shot at the prosecutor or one of the judges here.
Let's be clear, Trump isn't too stupid to realize it--his rants are intended inflame the maga nuts. He knows the consequences will be crazies acting out. It's validation in his sick, disordered, narcissistic mind.
Invite him to a tea party? Challenge him to a game of dominos? Shuffleboard? Kidding aside, I don't know what the other options might have been. Not only did he make a direct threat to the POTUS, he threatened the FBI agents on social media after a visit back in March.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Let't say they do nothing and we wake up to the news that (insert politician, prosecutor, judge ec) has been assassinated. Imagine the hell and second guessing that would occur? (aside from the whackos celebrating said assassination). It has been illegal to threaten the potus for a long time, not just something cooked up since Biden took office.
I don't know. I'm not being critical here, and we don't know the details. Could they trail the guy somewhere so they don't have to worry about possibly meeting fully automatic weapons, bombs, or traps? Tackle his ass outside Taco Bell? Hit him with a tranquilizer gun when he's leaving his house? I have no idea. Maybe he was determined to die one way or another.

I think it was a time sensitive circumstance, with the prez coming in the next day or even later that day. They probably didn't have time to wait for his next shopping excursion. And sorry if I sounded snarky in my previous post, didn't mean to.
I think it was early a.m. and Biden was coming in that same day. Did you want them to wait and invite him out for breakfast? (would have been the same result)
I usually prefer to see non-lethal methods. Try to talk the suspect down. But they did say this guy pointed his gun at them, it’s game over at that point. Especially as this fruitloop was taking about sniping people. They aren’t going to mess around with that, even if the guy is mentally ill. It’s a catch-22 for law enforcement and our gun culture. Guys like this are inherently mentally ill. They shouldn’t have guns. Yet, this guy DID have guns and revealed his mental illness to the world in how he threatened to use those guns. It was only his relationship to his weapons that revealed his mental illness to the world.
