Unless really damaging evidence against Biden is discovered during "the impeachment inquiry" which seems very unlikely at this point considering that the investigation by Republicans and the right-wing press trying to link Hunter with Joe Biden goes back at least to 2019 the political stunt could actually end up helping Biden. Normally, the party out of power does very well in the midterm election in the 6th year of 2-term presidency. In 1998 following Clinton's impeachment circus no seats changed in the Senate and the Republicans lost five House seats and in the case of Bill Clinton there was actually substantive evidence against him unlike the imaginary evidence against Old Joe. Clinton's approval rating actually increased in the year following his impeachment.

It does seem that they've officially opened the investigation to see if they can find something, anything to impeach him for.

Ironically if the phrase "witch hunt" which the Orange One and his supporters have used to describe investigations of Trump going back to 2016 is much more applicable to the impeachment inquiry of Joe Biden than it was to the investigation of Trump. The term "fishing expedition" is even more applicable and in the case of Joe Biden the probability of actually catching a fish is extremely small considering that they have been fishing in the same pond for years and have yet to catch anything.

It's rather obvious that the only reason that the Republicans have launched their investigation of Biden is so they and their Orange God can claim that the 2024 election is a contest between two impeached candidates. Although I was somewhat surprised that all of them voted to authorize the impeachment inquiry the only question now is whether Republicans representing districts that Biden carried in 2020 will vote to actually impeach him. My guess is enough of them will probably vote against actual impeachment to prevent its passage although I was wrong regarding the inquiry and could be wrong again.

It appears the house has a de facto new permanent committee: the impeachment committee.
