The US Forest Service is firing about 3,400 recent hires while the National Park Service is terminating about 1,000 workers under Donald Trump’s push to cut federal spending and bureaucracy, according to a report on Friday.

The terminations target employees who are in their probationary employment periods, which includes anyone hired less than a year ago, according to Reuters, and will affect sites such as the Appalachian trail, Yellowstone, the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr and the Sequoia national forest.

The cuts represent about 10% of the Forest Service workforce and about 5% of National Park Service employees, but excludes firefighters, law enforcement and certain meteorologists, as well as 5,000 seasonal workers, from the cutbacks.

Why does Trump hate nature so much? A sharpie can't fix everything

Well, Ranger Rick was able to run Jellystone all by himself.

Making the services worse, reduce visitors, make it suck, sell it for less than it is worth. Teddy Roosevelt would be ashamed.

I wonder if Trump will issue an EO changing the name of the National Park in Alaska from Denali to McKinley since he's apparently already done so for the iconic mountain for which the park was named.

Because in 15 days Trump was able to determine parks are over staffed? He’s the dumbest human to con the most idiots in history. Outstripped the guy with the funny mustache.

Question, isn't it Congress's job to set the budget for the year? Does the executive branch have the authority to "tear" up the existing budget with out Congress approval?

I wonder if Trump supporters who drive those big trucks with the Denali moniker are currently feeling the shame of Father's disapproval.

Perhaps there's a market for little metallic auto brandings of "McKinley"?

That would actually even top the ear-bandage wearing! Trumpies, whoever runs with my glorious idea, at least think of me.

Congress is afraid of Musk using his money to primary them so they are pretending to be ok with it

One of the National Park Service workers terminated by Musk and she's probably not unique.

A GS5 only makes $33k too. Obviously there was no real thoughts here, it’s just that the probationary people are legally the easiest to let go - if the only aim is to reduce headcount. Kind of ironic as it’s the opposite of what a private company would tend to do when belt tightening (keep the cheap young kids and have them work 2x as hard, fire some crusty middle managers who aren’t getting it done).

I was actually in the middle of posting something similar. Not only that, but in an agency like the FAA there are very young employees already, and the older ones are close to mandatory retirement for ATCs. Zero foresight.

To illustrate how sleazy Musk and the boys are with their mass termination of probationary employee apparently all of the termination notices sent to the employees are using the pretext that the employees are being terminated based on unsatisfactory performance although in a number if not the overwhelming majority of cases they received ratings of excellence in their previous performance appraisals.

He already tried. I read an article a while ago where he is changing the name of the mountain back but not the park (or vice versa). Something about he as allowed to do one but not the other. I'll link the article if I can find it again.

    Found it:

I wonder about the impact these "You're Fired!" episodes will have on voting. Trumph obviously doesn't care, but the pub nominee might.

Or maybe it took 15 days to realize some of the work can be outsourced.
