    San Antonio... Florida!
New report shows the colleges getting the most funding from overseas, and where, over decades ($60B).

LAST YEAR ALONE: THE 10 SCHOOLS RECEIVING MOST FOREIGN MONEY
    University of Cincinnati - $237,190,205.00
    Cornell University - $203,856,105.00
    Harvard University - $150,169,182.00
    Stanford University - $125,900,403.00
    The Julliard School - $119,980,000.00
    Mass. Inst. of Tech- $106,009,907.00
    Texas A&M University - $102,053,211.00
    Duke University - $94,162,381.00
    Carnegie Mellon U. - $91,784,059.00
    New York University - $91,148,857.00
    GRAND TOTAL: $1,322,254,310.00

Of course, some is likely legit.

Still, pretty eye-opening, and lists the countries too:
    https://americansforpublictrust.org/news/new-report-exposes-60-billion-in-foreign-cash-flowing-into-american-colleges-and-universities/

Here's some fun facts from it...
    - Federal law requires U.S. colleges and universities to disclose foreign gifts and contracts of $250,000 or more. However, enforcement has been weak, leading to widespread underreporting.
    - Federal investigations have found that bad actors use foreign funding to influence research, campus policies, and curriculum to push anti-American narratives.
    - Some of the largest foreign contributors to U.S. schools come from countries with long histories of anti-American sentiment, and their funds could be used to spread dangerous propaganda, steal intellectual property, and sow discord on our college campuses.
    - Just in 2024 alone, China and Qatar together alone gifted or contracted over $500 million to American schools.

Yes, it is well known that schools get funding from overseas. Isn't that a good thing? Don't we want schools that are good enough that foreign people want to send their kids to them and want to contribute to them remaining so high quality?

Guess you didn't read the report. I love some of the money, when it's for good reasons. But much of it is unreported, and for nefarious reasons:
    - Very little oversight of donations.
    - Many of the countries that top the list of foreign gifts and contracts to colleges and universities are nations that are long-standing adversaries and enemies of the U.S.
    - Foreign actors may use their funding of U.S. schools to buy influence, sow discord and anti-American propaganda, and to steal invaluable intellectual property and research.
    - Check out the top countries involved -- most not our friends -- even Iran!

The "report" provides zero evidence for its "fast facts." This is a bad joke written to dupe suckers and promote anti-intellectualism.

Their evidence of "nefarious purposes" is assuming that they are for nefarious purposes (that is why they say "may" not something more definitive, as they have no actual evidence of their claims) and blurring the line between private donations and country-level donations. If I give money, it is not the US government giving money. If a person from another country gives money, it is not from their government.

Here is a pretty good example of the nonsense of that analysis: the top recipient of foreign funds is Harvard, at $3.2 billion over whatever period that they are using (they, of course, don't disclose that). $350 Million of that was a naming gift for the School of Public Health. It seems highly likely that they consider that a donation from "China" despite the fact that the name on the school was an Anti-Communist who fled to Hong Kong, and the donation came from his sons, one of whom is actually an American citizen while the other still resides primarily in Hong Kong but actually supported the Anti-Chinese protests in Hong Kong in 2019.

There is no evidence that either of them have dictated any policy issues related to China (the money was spent to fight pandemics, primarily in West Africa, obesity, pollution and cancer, and failing health systems). Since then, the same family has made completely unrestricted donations to UMass and MIT.

Harvard was $150M LAST YEAR ALONE. They do say that.

This guy you mention may be the good guy you say, but what if he is not?

The point is, there's almost NO OVERSIGHT to make sure what you think is happening is really happening. You certainly have to believe the need for that is vital.

China is government-controlled businesses. So an 'individual' is very likely giving money to a college in the US where China wants access. A Chinese business person, even the richest, can not give money to America without their government's approval.

Watching the REAGAN movie recently, which is really good, reminded me of how Russia poured money (and people) into universities to foment disruptions and revolt years ago, all documented now.

Trump will certainly create the oversight of those college foreign funds and track them, which has never been done or required. Then both you and I can rest comfortably knowing that it's all being sued for the good of Americans.

I have no idea if he is a "good guy." But his money is doing good.

Why do I need a government document of who funds a private entity to monitor these things? Again, these aren't secret. Look at their methods. Public sources. I named one off the top of my head. I could have named a bunch of other ones as well.

That is entirely not true. Plenty of private money in China.

    Hooray for big government regulation!

This is the model Qatar used to influence university “studies” on the Middle East.

You think its a bad thing to send Chinese kids to places where they will be submerged in pro-American capitalist ideology (at their expense) for their formative years?

So sorry to have triggered you. I know how much you worship the Qatarian principles of anti-Israel at all costs.
