It's pretty clear he wasn't winning over players.

Clean out the locker room? Again? They just got done purging the roster. Lol. Hell, this is Marvin Jones' first year with the team. You're telling me he needs to be purged? He has no history of being a locker room problem but it's him and not Urban?

I agree 100%. Please note that last season, the NFL Players Association sent a letter to the league’s players that revealed over 25 percent of the grievances filed by players have been against the Jaguars. A year into Meyer's first (and now last) NFL season there are reports that he berates his coaches and players. I these reports are true, than Meyer is created another boatload of grievances for the Jags management and ownership to take care of.

When you are hired to clean up a mess, you do not make the mess bigger by taking crap on top of it.

Marvin Jones didn’t have a problem. He said they handled it like men and moved on. The media made a problem out of it.

I wonder if he's gonna invite that blonde babe (grinder extraordinaire) from the bar? Just saying.

    What happened? Delusions of grandeur?

I suppose longevity in this sport is rare. Spurrier had a nice run. Saban obviously. Bowden. Too bad. Kind of a short shelf life. Brilliant offensive mind.

Maybe a cleansing. Sit on a beach. Ask for forgiveness. Take some personal time. Get back into announcing. I appreciate what he did at UF.

    Go Gators.

On the other hand, when the coach you hire to save a sinking ship is caught on video in a very compromising situation with woman (while your wife is at home), gives the owner and management a reason to start doubting the hiring that coach.

I'm not going to argue that the media doesn't blow things out of proportion, but Jaguars fans have seen this movie play out. The point is there was obviously an issue with Urban's approach or there would have been nothing to "settle like men." Free agents aren't attracted to bullshit, and I doubt anyone had faith in Urban's ability to improve this roster through the draft after last year.

Arguing for a talent purge when the franchise just went through a talent purge is crazy.

The quick and decisive action by the Jags ownership/management is the right step to remove that "cluser k" image. The next coach will know that a lot is going to be expected from them and that there will not be any second chances.

The guy has obvious mental issues that have gotten worse over the years. Hopefully, he'll use some of his millions to get the help he needs. But it seems that part of his problem is that he can't honestly evaluate himself.

That's not true. Lots of irrational crying about Jacksonville today.

The inappropriate actions with that person weren't the problem. Being publicly blotto in the middle of a season was the problem. Diddle whoever you want, get drunk if you need to but do it privately.

Probably not. He's already used the health excuse to get out of a job, so he had to find a new creative way to squirm out of a job he didn't want to do anymore. Methinks he realized he was in way over his head after about Week 3 or Week 4. If Khan hadn't fired him first, Urban probably would've stepped down after the season.

I don't see what's so hard to understand about this. If the Jags had finished with a horrific 2-15 record this season, but there were no scandalous pictures of their head coach in compromising positions and no reports of players being assaulted by the head coach, Meyer probably would've gotten another 2-3 seasons to get this thing right.

Meh, as a Jags fan, i'm not too concerned. I'm sure he was both a bad fit AND also not given a fair shot (not by Khan, but by the media etc.). Both can be right. But this is the NFL, and Urban should have known he would have intense scrutiny (successful and known college coaches typically do) and he did a lot of dumb things to merit that scrutiny this year.

Did they double their wins from last year? Sure, but they also invested heavily in free agency in the offseason and also brought in a generational talent at QB. Their strength of schedule was about average. The owner is known for having patience with losers, keeping coaches well past their time so Urban must have done enough to warrant getting rid of him. I'm hearing Charlie Strong will serve in an interim capacity.

And in the actual article it said he talked to his agent about it right away and got lawyers involved. No specifics beyond that.

Not arguing for a talent purge. Just saying Urban needed time to get the guys in there that buy into his system. I get that you don’t like the guy and want him to fail, but he wasn’t given a fair shot IMO.
